Terror trial: Big Ben and Heathrow Airport on target hit list, court hears

“Immediately there’s one focus to all the police. Get off the streets. Civilians get off the streets. London will be, not just Westminster attack, entire London…

“We’re here to cause terror, my brother. We are a death squad sent by Allah and his messengers to avenge my Arab brothers’ blood…”

Terror trial: Big Ben and Heathrow Airport on target hit list, court hears:

A BRITISH teacher who was “fascinated” with the Islamic State planned terror attacks on Big Ben and the Queen’s Guard, saying “we are a death squad sent by Allah”, a court heard.

Umar Ahmed Haque is also accused of planning to target Heathrow Airport, Transport for London, Westfield shopping centres, banks in the City of London, Parliament, the English Defence League or Britain First, foreign embassies, media stations and the courts. The 25-year-old from east London, who worked as a religious teacher at an Islamic school, has denied preparing acts of terrorism.

Haque is on trial at the Old Bailey alongside three other men aged between 19 and 27.

Mr Haque is accused of enlisting help from others at a mosque in Barking, where he allegedly groomed kids with “role play” and extremist videos.

He allegedly showed children as young as 11 videos of beheadings to “foster and encourage” them into becoming extremists, the court heard.Prosecutor Mark Heywood QC said Haque had “identified methods and targets” and planned to “carry out one or more violent attacks”.

In a bugged conversation with one of his co-accused four days after the March 22 Westminster Bridge attack, Haque allegedly said: “So what I want to personally is launch different attacks in all the different areas, one in Westminster, one in Stratford, one in Forest Gate, one… in so many different areas, yeah.

“Immediately there’s one focus to all the police. Get off the streets. Civilians get off the streets. London will be, not just Westminster attack, entire London…

“We’re here to cause terror, my brother. We are a death squad sent by Allah and his messengers to avenge my Arab brothers’ blood…”Mr Heywood added the defendant was “fascinated” by the “warped and extreme ideology of Islamic State”, and that he admitted to cops he was their “loyal follower”.

Haque and Abuthaher Mamun, 19, are jointly charged with preparing acts of terrorism between March 25 and May 18 2017.

And Haque is further charged with preparing terrorist acts by leading exercises with children at the mosque and dissemination of terrorist publications at the Lantern of Knowledge school.
