With another day left until the 48-hour “leave or face war” deadline imposed by the newly-independent regions of Ukraine, Interfax is reporting:

  • *ATTACK ON UKRAINIAN ARMY CONVOY NEAR SEPARATIST-HELD SLOVYANSK

This follows earlier concerns from Germany’s Schaeuble who said he “can imagine” a worsening of the Ukraine crisis. As AP reports,

Ongoing military operations in Slavyansk have left at least 20 rebels dead and dozens more civilians injured according to Interfax.

As RT reports, fatalities are on both sides with little progress reported one way or the other. The White House says it’s “extremely concerned” by the deteriorating situation in southern Ukraine. Perhaps more important for the average American citizen, Klitschko has decided to postpone his planned wedding to Hayden Panettiere due to the conflict… now it’s getting serious!!

There were fatalities among both Kiev loyalists and local militia members after government troops renewed the crackdown on the defiant eastern Ukrainian protester stronghold of Slavyansk. Over a dozen of people have been killed, including some civilians.

There was a humorous moment on the tape overnight when news hit that Germany was set to propose new (and improved) Geneva talks on Ukraine, according to German foreign minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier. According to Bloomberg, the aim of new Geneva talks would be to correct failure of parties to adhere to accords forged in first talks in city. “New Geneva talks would seek to boost OSCE presence in Ukraine to ensure compliance with April accord, with observers also acting as mediators in local conflicts.” Yes, utopia is great, and here’s to hoping that once, just once, Russia will ignore the fact that it has every geostrategic advantage in the ongoing conflict and will pull back. In the meantime, here is what happened overnight as fighting in the Ukraine civil war continued unabated, claiming more lives and dozens of injuries overnight.
