UPS wants to be a player in drone delivery, starting in Rwanda:

United Parcel Service Inc. has for decades been the company that delivers packages to your doorstep with its signature brown trucks, but the company has quietly begun expanding into drone delivery.

The UPS Foundation announced Monday it has entered into a partnership with drone startup Zipline and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, to deliver blood for transfusions by drone throughout Rwanda. UPS offered an $800,000 grant to kick off the deliveries.

UN wants to use drones in DR Congo conflict (AFP, Nov 23, 2012):

UNITED NATIONS — The United Nations wants to use drones for the first time to monitor fighting in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, where Rwanda has been accused of aiding rebels, officials said Friday.

Peacekeeping chiefs have been in contact with the governments of DR Congo and of Rwanda about the sensitive move, which could set a precedent that would worry some United Nations members, diplomats said.

Rwanda itself was one of the first to register concerns. Olivier Nduhungirehe, first counselor for Rwanda’s UN mission, said: “This is controversial, not all countries agree with this.”

Rwandan gets 30 years for genocide (News 24, Sep. 30, 2011):

Arusha – Two former Rwandan ministers were jailed Friday for 30 years by the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda for involvement in the central African country’s 1994 genocide.

Former public service minister Prosper Mugiraneza and his then trade counterpart Justin Mugenzi were convicted of complicity to commit genocide and incitement to commit genocide.
