Human Genes Engineered Into Experimental GMO Rice Being Grown In Kansas

According to our sources, human genes have been spliced into an experimental strain of GMO rice that’s being grown in Kansas. So now, beyond combining animals and insects with food crops, the mad GMO scientists are actually combining humans and plants to create hybrid “human-rice” plants!
– Mike Adams, Natural News

Human genes engineered into experimental GMO rice being grown in Kansas (Natural News, May 02, 2012):

Unless the rice you buy is certified organic, or comes specifically from a farm that tests its rice crops for genetically modified (GM) traits, you could be eating rice tainted with actual human genes. The only known GMO with inbred human traits in cultivation today, a GM rice product made by biotechnology company Ventria Bioscience is currently being grown on 3,200 acres in Junction City, Kansas — and possibly elsewhere — and most people have no idea about it.

Since about 2006, Ventria has been quietly cultivating rice that has been genetically modified (GM) with genes from the human liver for the purpose of taking the artificial proteins produced by this “Frankenrice” and using them in pharmaceuticals. With approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Ventria has taken one of the most widely cultivated grain crops in the world today, and essentially turned it into a catalyst for producing new drugs.

GMO Alert: Top 10 Genetically Modified Foods To Avoid Eating

Nearly all of the processed foods in the US contain GMO.

GMO alert: top 10 genetically modified foods to avoid eating (Natural News, May 01, 2012):

There is a conspiracy of selling out happening in America. Politics and personal interest it would seem determine government policies over and above health and safety issues. When President Obama appointed Michael Taylor in 2009 as senior adviser for the FDA, a fierce protest ensued from consumer groups and environmentalists. Why? Taylor used to be vice president for Monsanto, a multinational interested in marketing genetically modified (GM) food. It was during his term that GMO’s were approved in the US without undergoing tests to determine if they were safe for human consumption.

The danger of GMO’s

The question of whether or not genetically modified foods (GMO’s) are safe for human consumption is an ongoing debate that does not seem to see any resolution except in the arena of public opinion. Due to lack of labeling, Americans are still left at a loss as to whether or not what is on the table is genetically modified. This lack of information makes the avoiding and tracking of GM foods an exercise in futility. Below are just some of the food products popularly identified to be genetically modified:

Fukushima To Test Every Single Bag Of Rice This Year (Meaning They Will Definitely Grow Rice in 2012)

#Fukushima to Test Every Single Bag of Rice This Year (Meaning They Will Definitely Grow Rice in 2012) (EX-SKF, Jan. 5, 2012):

Who is going to eat Fukushima rice? Probably the same people eating it now, at schools, hospitals, at family restaurants, convenience stores. Oh and the increasingly unpopular prime minister, Yoshihiko Noda, who demanded that the Japanese citizens eat Fukushima rice like he did every day.

For people who say “The Fukushima JA didn’t ship rice that was found with any amount of radioactive cesium”, it’s true. The problem is that the Fukushima JA handles only 23% rice grown in Fukushima. (The link is in Japanese.) The rest goes directly from rice farmers to the distributors or to the end customers.

From Yomiuri Shinbun (1/6/2011):

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????

The Fukushima prefectural government has decided to test all bags of rice for radioactive materials for the 2012 rice to be grown and harvested in Fukushima Prefecture with the help from the JA [agricultural producer co-op] and other organizations.

Insane Japan: They Will Grow Rice Again This Year in Fukushima

They Will Grow Rice Again This Year in Fukushima (EX-SKF, Jan. 3, 2012):

I could almost hear the words: “This time, it will be different!”

Up to, say summer last year, the farmers could have been excused for the lack of information given to them (for those who relied on the government information to be handed to them). But now nearly 10 months after the accident and the radioactive contamination in Fukushima Prefecture cannot be hidden any more (except to most of the residents who have remained, apparently) and some rice farmers are suing TEPCO for the damage, if they grow rice again in Fukushima this year hoping theirs will be cesium-free but knowing full well that they may not be, what do you call it?

Then again, doing what the government tells you to do has been the mode of operation in Japan for such a long time, and the farmers may not see any need to change it now.

First, Yomiuri Shinbun (1/4/2012):

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Regarding the rice harvested in part of Fukushima that was found with radioactive cesium exceeding the national provisional safety limit (500 becquerels/kg), the Fukushima prefectural government has decided to instruct farmers to give more potassium fertilizer when they plant rice for 2012.

According to the prefectural government, potassium fertilizer works to limit the uptake of radioactive cesium by the rice plant.

Radioactive Rice: Watari District, Fukushima City: 1540 Bq/Kg

#Radioactive Rice from Watari District, Fukushima City: 1540 Bq/Kg (EX-SKF, Dec. 22, 2011):

News of radioactive cesium rice just keeps coming from Fukushima Prefecture. This time, it is from Watari District again, and the number is the highest found so far.

From Yomiuri Shinbun (12/22/2011):

? ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Radioactive cesium exceeding the national provisional safety limit (500 becquerels/kg) has been found in rice harvested in Fukushima City and other cities in Fukushima Prefecture. On December 22, the Fukushima prefectural government announced that 1540 becquerels/kg of radioactive cesium was found in rice grown by a farmer in Watari District in Fukushima Prefecture.

??????????????????????????????????????????

It is the highest level of radioactive cesium in rice detected so far. The rice is kept at the farmer’s home, and not sold in the market.

Well, it is the “official” highest level, and it is approaching the “unofficial” high (2600 becquerels/kg) measured in rice grown in the soil taken from Iitate-mura by Professor Kazue Tazaki of Kanazawa University. A similar amount of radioactive cesium was detected in rice grown in Iitate-mura (unofficially by an irate farmer who was forced to relocate).

Japan Expands Rice Ban

“Because of the limited capacity for testing, …

Fukushima Government Only Checks 2.9% Of Rice For Radioactivity

… local authorities were unable to check every bag of rice for contamination.”

Japan Expands Rice Ban as Contamination Spreads (Bloomberg, Dec. 8, 2011):

Japan will extend a ban on rice shipments from a third city in Fukushima prefecture after local authorities found more tainted grain, deepening food-safety concerns nine months after a nuclear disaster.

The ban will likely cover the Shibukawa area of Nihonmatsu City, about 55 kilometers (34 miles) from the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant, as rice samples from the area contained 780 becquerels per kilogram of radioactive cesium, said Shinji Uchida at the grain division of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. The maximum allowed by the government for human consumption is 500 becquerels.

The discovery came after authorities increased rice testing for cesium after tainted supplies were found in Fukushima City and Date City. Some of the contaminated grain was sold to local buyers after Fukushima Governor Yuhei Sato said in October that rice produced in the prefecture was safe to eat.

“We may find more contaminated rice in other areas,” Uchida said today by phone. “Because of the limited capacity for testing, local authorities were unable to check every bag of rice for contamination.”

Fukushima Government Only Checks 2.9% Of Rice For Radioactivity

Fukushima local government only check 2.9% of all the rice (Fukushima Diary, Dec. 6, 2011):

Following up this article http://fukushima-diary.com/2011/11/russian-roulette/

Though it is obvious that Fukushima rice is contaminated ,Fukushima government has been trying to sell their cesium rice whatever happens.

Every time Fukushima rice exceed the emergency safety limit ,Fukushima local government re-declared “safety” with zero basis and tried to push their cesium rice to the market.

They say, they sell only rice which have passed their safety test.

However,it turned out that they only check 2.9% of all the rice.

There are 60,000 farmers in Fukushima ,but Fukushima local government only checked 1724 lots of rice.
but they state it is more than double as what the government required them to check ,other local governments conduct even more meaningless safety check.

Additionally ,even around Onami chiku ,where they measured 1270 Bq/kg from the rice , they check only one of 50 bags, which means 2 %.

We definitely should not eat rice.

And Now: Rice Burgers Made From Radioactive Fukushima Rice

We couldn’t kill enough (Fukushima Diary, Nov. 30, 2011):

An NPO called “Tsukuba agri challenge” exports cesium rice to Vietnam.

“To take down the harmful rumor”, the NPO in Tsukuba, Ibaraki is going to sell rice burger made of Fukushima rice and Ibaraki rice even though they measured 1,270 Bq/kg from rice in Fukushima on 11/25.

The NPO considers Vietnam to be one of the major markets in Asia, they even add lotus and lettuce to cesium rice burger and held a sample eating event at Crescent mall on 11/30/2011.

They had them eat 100 cesium rice burgers.

Those cesium burgers are supposed to have passed their radiation check collaborating with an IT firm called “Computer laboratory” in Hitachinaka.
They measured the samples with “high spec” system and they did not measure cesium from any of the samples.

‘Dangerously High Levels Of Radioactive Cesium’ Detected In Rice From Date City (60 Km From Fukushima Nuke Plant)

‘Level dangerous; some already sold: Fukushima’

Cesium find makes Date rice off-limits (Japan Times, Nov. 28, 2011):

The government on Tuesday ordered a ban on the shipment of rice harvested in two more districts in Fukushima Prefecture, after tests detected dangerously high levels of radioactive cesium.

Chief Cabinet Secreatary Osamu Fujimura said the central government has instructed Fukushima Gov. Yuhei Sato to impose the ban on about 1,900 kg harvested in the Oguni district and 1,500 kg in the Tsukidate district, both in the city of Date.

On Monday, the Fukushima Prefectural Government announced that a combined 3,400 kg of unmilled rice harvested by two farms in the Oguni district and by one farm in the Tsukidate district contained between 580 and 1,050 becquerels per kilogram of radioactive cesium. The government’s limit is 500 becquerels.

In October, Gov. Sato officially announced that test results for rice at 1,174 spots in the prefecture, including Date, confirmed that Fukushima’s rice was not contaminated by radioactive materials and was safe to consume.

The initial inspections showed that 82 percent of the rice tested showed no traces of contamination, and the remaining samples contained radioactive cesium below the government-set limit.

#Radioactive Rice Keeps Coming: 1050 Bq/Kg of Radioactive Cesium from Date City, Fukushima (EX-SKF, Nov. 28, 2011):

Asahi Shinbun has a convenient map that plots locations where the rice has been found with radioactive cesium far exceeding the provisional safety limit of 500 becquerels/kg. The white circle is Onami District in Fukushima City where up to 1270 Bq/kg of radioactive cesium has been found in the rice. The two red circles are the locations in Date City where the rice exceeding the limit has been found this time. So far.

And unlike in Onami District in Fukushima City, they are only testing one bag out of every 50. Some comfort.

? ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????????????

After radioactive cesium exceeding the provisional safety limit was detected in rice harvested in Onami District of Fukushima City (former Oguni-mura), Fukushima Prefecture announced on November 28 that rice from 3 farms in the adjasent areas of Onami District, former Oguni-mura and former Tsukidate-machi, both of which became part of Date City, was found with radioactive cesium exceeding the limit. Part of the rice has been sold in the market. The prefectural government has requested that the shipment of rice from these two districts to be voluntarily halted. The national government is going to order the halt of the rice shipment from the districts.

Japan bans Fukushima rice (Telegraph, Nov. 17, 2011):

Japan has announced its first ban on rice produced near the crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant after samples showed radioactive contamination well above legal limits. The findings will further worry nervous consumers, already fretting over the safety of domestic produce, despite its previous solid safety reputation.

Authorities in Fukushima prefecture say rice produced near the stricken atomic power plant contained caesium they measured at 630 becquerels per kilogram. The government safety limit is 500 becquerels.

Osamu Fujimura, the Chief Cabinet Secretary, ordered Fukushima Governor Yuhei Sato to restrict shipments of rice from Onami – from where the samples were sourced – according to an agricultural ministry official.

“This restriction won’t be lifted until safety of the rice produced in the area can be confirmed,” the official said, adding that the ban will affect 154 farms that produced 192 tonnes of rice this year.

#Radioactive Rice: 630 Bq/kg Cesium from Rice in Fukushima City (EX-SKF, Nov. 16, 2011):

For those of you who wrote to me that Fukushima rice was “safe” because it all “tested” well below the safety limit of 500 becquerels/kg of radioactive cesium, sorry. NHK has a piece of bad news for you.

630 becquerels/kg of radioactive cesium has been detected from the rice grown and harvested in Onami District of Fukushima City in Fukushima. It was discovered only because one farmer asked the local JA to test his rice.

The video clip accompanying the NHK News says 630 becquerels/kg of radioactive cesium from brown rice, and 300 becquerels/kg from white (milled) rice.

The entire Onami District was declared good to ship the rice, after the Fukushima prefectural government tested 2 samples in one location in Onami District.

Onami District of Fukushima City has high radiation contamination, and that’s where the volunteers have been sent to “decontaminate”, scooping out the sludge in the drain by hand, among other pleasant activities. Genetically modified rice created to produce human blood (Telegraph, Nov. 6, 2011):

Grains of rice have been genetically modified by scientists so they produce a key component of human blood in an attempt to provide an alternative to donations.

The protein, extracted from rice plants containing human genes, could be used in hospitals to treat burns victims and help patients who have suffered severe blood loss.

The scientists behind the research claim it will provide a plentiful and safe alternative to products from human blood donations, which are in short supply due to falling numbers of donors, and get around the need to screen for diseases such as HIV and hepatitis.

ALL Fukushima Rice Cleared For Shipment … Radioactive Or Not!

Fukushima Rice All Cleared for Shipment, Radioactive or Not (EX-SKF, Oct. 12, 2011):

because in the “main” test administered by the Fukushima prefectural government, none exceeded the stringent national provisional safety limit of 500 becquerels/kg of radioactive cesium.

The highest was from a district in Nihonmatsu City, 470 becquerels/kg (page 9 of the linked PDF file). But not to worry, rice farmers of the particular district. The Fukushima prefectural government will buy up all your rice, according to Kyodo News English (10/12/2011), probably using the money from the national government (i.e. nation’s taxpayers’ money).

It’s a win-win for Fukushima rice farmers who went ahead and grew rice. If tested for less than 500 becquerels/kg of cesium, they are all set to sell. If tested close to 500 becquerels/kg, the government will buy the crop. No information on what the prefecture is going to do with the rice it buys up, but I suspect it will find its way to the market eventually. It’s a lose-lose for a minority of conscientious farmers in Fukushima who chose not to grow at all this year – no sales, no compensation. Good luck, consumers, finding radiation-free rice and fighting critics who tell you that you are selfish on insisting on clean food.

In the meantime, a tweet from a farmer in Iitate-mura who evacuated from the village says:

10 ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????/KG???????????? ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Diary of my temporary return to Iitate-mura in early October: The result of the radiation test for the rice came in. Surprise, surprise. 2,194 becquerels/kg [of radioactive cesium] in brown rice, more than 4 times the provisional safety limit. Since it was so high I arranged for the re-testing, just in case. As to the rice crop in the rice paddy, it has to be mowed down by the end of this week. So the new crop of rice will be feeding the wild boars.

Japan Finds 500 Bq/Kg Radioactive Cesium In Pre-Harvested Rice Sample

Japan finds rice needing thorough radiation test (Reuters, Sep 24, 2011):

Japan found the first case of rice with radioactive materials far exceeding a government-set level for a preliminary test of pre-harvested crop, requiring thorough inspection of the rice to be harvested from the region, the farm ministry said late on Friday.

The ministry said radioactive cesium of 500 becquerels per kg was found in a sample of the pre-harvested rice in Nihonmatsu city, in Fukushima Prefecture, 56 km (35 miles) west of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant which was crippled by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, triggering the world’s worst nuclear disaster in 25 years.

The ministry said the Fukushima Prefecture will expand the inspection spots nearly ten-fold to around 300 areas.

It is the first case in Japan of rice containing radioactive cesium exceeding 200 becquerels per kg, a level which requires further thorough testing of the area for the harvested rice.

Now the government scientists have some explaining to do, because the soil at that location contained only 3,000 becquerels/kg of radioactive cesium. The government has used the transfer rate of cesium from soil to rice at 0.1, but in this particular instance, if we believe the number for the soil contamination the transfer rate is more like 0.17.

Nihonmatsu City where the 500bq/kg rice was found is located at about 55 kilometers west from Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant.

What You Eat Affects Your Genes: Scientists Find RNA From Rice Can Survive Digestion And Alter Gene Expression

What You Eat Affects Your Genes: RNA from Rice Can Survive Digestion and Alter Gene Expression (Discover Magazine, September 21st, 2011):

What’s the News: It’s no secret that having lunch messes with your biochemistry. Once that sandwich hits your stomach, genes related to digestion have been activated and are causing the production of the many molecules that help break food down. But a new study suggests that the connection between your food’s biochemistry and your own may be more intimate than we thought. Tiny RNAs usually found plants have been discovered circulating in blood, and animal studies indicate that they are directly manipulating the expression of genes.

What’s the Context:

  • MicroRNAs, or miRNAs, are molecules involved in regulation of gene expression, the transcription of genes into proteins. miRNAs bind to the messenger RNAs that ferry genetic information from DNA to the ribosomes, which translate messenger RNAs into proteins.
  • When a miRNA binds a messenger RNA, it keeps it from being translated, thus preventing that gene from being expressed.

How the Heck:

  • This team of researchers at Nanjing University had been studying the miRNAs that circulate in human blood and were surprised to find that some of the miRNAs weren’t homegrown but instead came from plants. One of the most common plant miRNAs was from rice, a staple of their Chinese subjects’ diets. Intrigued, they confirmed with a variety of tests in mice that the miRNA, which, in its native environs, usually regulates plant development, was definitely coming from food.

#Radioactive Rice to Come? Rice Growing in a Rice Paddy with 35,000 Becquerels/kg of Radioactive Cesium? (EX-SKF, August 8, 2011):

No wonder the first trading of rice futures in Osaka fetched 40% premium over the exchange-suggested contract price.

If this number is correct, the harvest season in Japan will be indeed “chaos”.

From the tweet of Ryuichi Kino, who has attended and reported on almost all TEPCO/government press conferences regarding the Fukushima accident since March, reporting on the TEPCO/government joint press conference on August 8:

?????????ZDF???????????????????35000Bq/kg?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Germany’s ZDF Television is here. Said 35,000 becquerels/kg [of radioactive cesium, most likely] has been found in the soil of a rice paddy planted with rice, and asked if the government does any thorough check. Hosono [minister in charge of the nuclear accident] consulted with his staff for a very long time, and said they will confirm the number. He said the government will check the rice as they grow in the rice paddies.

The transfer factor from the soil to rice is considered to be about 0.1. 35,000 becquerels/kg in soil may result in 3,500 becquerels/kg of harvested rice, 7 times the provisional safety limit which is already far too loose for the staple like rice.

I’ve found the video clip for this part. It’s the rice paddy in Fukushima City. Fukushima City was OUTSIDE the evacuation zone of any kind, so the soil was apparently never tested by the prefectural government. The reporter asks the question in English, with a Japanese interpreter.

Japan Rice Futures Surge 40%, Trigger Circuit Breaker On Concerns Fukushima Radiation Will Destroy Crops (ZeroHedge, Aug 8, 2011):

70 years after rice futures trading was halted on the Tokyo Grain Exchange, it was finally reopened today… only to be halted immediately. The reason: concerns that Fukushima radiation would destroy rice crops and collapse supply sent the contract price soaring from the reference price of Y13,500 to a ridiculous Y18,500 at which point it was halted. Note the tick chart below which puts any of our own stupid vacuum tube-induced HFT algos to outright shame. That said, the move should not come as a surprise at least to our readers after we predicted the day Fukushima blew up (and even before) that very soon rice prices would surge to record highs. Little by little, that realization is dawning on everyone.

More from Bloomberg:

The exchange listed rice contracts today for the first time since the start of World War II to boost flagging volumes and profit. The resumption comes as fallout from the Fukushima Dai- Ichi power plant may spread after it was found cattle had been fed cesium-tainted rice straw.
