When Nazi Germany annexed the Czechoslovak border province of the Sudetenland in September 1938, it immediately absorbed a good part of the country’s banking system as well as most of Czechoslovakia’s strategic defenses. By then the country’s national bank had prudently transferred most of its gold abroad to two accounts at the Bank of England: one in the name of the BIS, and one in the name of the National Bank of Czechoslovakia itself. (Countries had deposited some of their gold reserves in a sub-account at the BIS account in London to ease gold sales and purchases.) Of the 94,772 kilograms of gold, only 6,337 kilograms remained in Prague. The security of the national gold was more than a monetary issue. The Czechoslovak reserves, like those of Republican Spain, were an expression of nationhood. Carved out of the remains of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918, the Czechoslovak Republic was a new and fragile nation. A good part of the gold had been donated by the public in the country’s early years. Josef Malik, the governor of the national bank, and his fellow Czechs believed that, even as the Nazis’ dismembered their homeland, if the national gold was safe, then something of the country’s independence would endure.

Germany owes Greece no less than €278.7 billion in World War II reparations, Athens said, referring to the destruction wrought upon the nation during the Nazi occupation. The sum exceeds Greece’s total debt of €240 billion to the EU.
“According to our calculations, the debt linked to German reparations is €278.7 billion euros, including €10.3 billion for the so-called forced loan. All the other amounts are related to allowances for individuals or infrastructure,” said the country’s deputy finance minister, Dimitris Mardas.
The figure was calculated by a parliamentary committee and the Greek supreme court. The numbers have previously varied between €269 billion and €332 billion.
Mardas added that at the 1946 Paris Conference the amount of reparations was set at $341.2 billion.

Among the latest absurdities from Northfield, MN, an associate dean, Louis Newman, a professor of political science, Laurence Cooper, and Alan Rubenstein have co-authored an editorial in The Carletonian, the student newspaper of Carleton College, in which they assert that, while I claim to be a professor emeritus a UMD, the university denies it; a self-righteous woman, [name deleted], has declared that I am “not a credible source” because I am insulting the memory of the 6,000,000 Jews who died in the Holocaust; and a local attorney, David Ludescher, has offered to debate me on Sandy Hook, but refuses to read any of my (now more than 33) articles about it because they were published in Veterans Today!
All this in spite of the fact that it would have been effortless to verify that I am not only a professor emeritus at the University of Minnesota Duluth but that I am a Distinguished McKnight University Professor Emeritus, which is the second highest honor that the University of Minnesota can bestow, as Kevin Krein observed in his article in Northfield News. The woman who claims I am insulting the Holocaust–and the parents of the children who died at Sandy Hook–simply takes for granted that she is right and I am wrong about both (with no proof whatsoever); and, as its readers well-know, Veterans Today is the internet powerhouse devoted to covert actions and “false flag” attacks and may be the most credible source.
