David Cameron’s Radical Plan To ‘Burn Up’ UK’s Mountain Of Plutonium

David Cameron’s radical plan to ‘burn up’ UK’s mountain of plutonium (Independent, Nov 28, 2013):

A radical plan to dispose of Britain’s huge store of civil plutonium – the biggest in the world – by “burning” it in a new type of fast reactor is now officially one of three “credible options” being considered by the Government, The Independent understands.

However, further delays have hit attempts to make a final decision on what to do with the growing plutonium stockpile which has been a recurring headache for successive governments over the past three decades.

The stock of plutonium, one of the most dangerous radioactive substances and the element of nuclear bombs, has already exceeded 100 tonnes and is likely to grow to as much as 140 tonnes by 2020, bolstered by a recent decision to include foreign plutonium from imported nuclear waste.

I removed the all the content of this article from…

Because of that and because of their immediate overreaction to write a DCMA, which is by the way abused in 57% of all cases …

… I have decided to remove not only the content of the article, but also the link.

My hoster’s legal department even told them to …

“… submit a properly formatted notice pursuant to the DMCA.”

… next time.

Their DCMA was baseless and unprovable according to a senior webmaster I know.

Those people do not deserve a backlink from Infinite Unknown.

In regards to their article Greenpeace Finds Cesium In Japanese Grocery Store Fish” I’ve told them:

This article contains TWO TINY (f******) sentences and quoting them is ‘fair use’ in my opinion.

A “fair dealing” with copyright material does not infringe copyright if it is for the following purposes: research or private study; criticism or review; or reporting current events.

If however you are still insisting that you want me to remove those short infos for my readers, then I will remove everything, incl. the link to your article, but will leave a message for all those readers that still visit these articles, so that they exactly know why the content has been removed and why I am not even linking anymore to your articles.

The Fukushima disaster is killing and threatening all life on the entire planet.

I am thinking that an intelligent being will do everything it can to help avoid total disaster (like a Fukushima reactor no. 4 SFP collapse) even if it is just by raising global awareness and hoping that through that the response to the Fukushima disaster will improve because of increasing public pressure & awareness.

You state at SimplyInfo that …

“Crowd sourced information research & analysis without focus on profit.”

Without focus on profit??? If this statement is the truth, then where is the problem???

Why should you care about copyright? Because by saying that your work is not about the money one might think that you want this information to be known to as many people as possible.

Now please calm down and let me know what you want.

Fukushima Is Falling Apart: Are You Ready … For A Mass Extinction Event?

Update 3:

Fukushima: While No One Is Watching Humanity Faces The Most Dangerous Situation Ever

Update 2:

‘The Greatest Threat Humanity Has Ever Faced’: Fukushima Reactor No. 4 SFP ‘An Immediate Problem’ – Building Is Sinking, Over 30 Inches In Places

Update:

Which Will Collapse First, The Economy Or The Spent Fuel Pool At Fukushima? (Ambassador Murata: Total Number Of Spent Fuel Rods At Fukushima Daiichi Site Excluding The Rods In The Pressure Vessel Is 11,421!!!)

From the article:

If they are MOX fuel, containing 6% plutonium, one fuel rod has the potential to kill 2.89 billion people. If this pool collapses, as Senator Wyden is now saying too, we would face a mass extinction event from the release of radiation in those rods.

That is, if we aren’t in one already. Nuke experts like Arnie Gundersen and Helen Caldicott are prepared to evacuate their families to the southern hemisphere if that happens. It is that serious.

So now you know, if you didn’t before. We are in big trouble.

More info on reactor 4 down below.

Fukushima is falling apart: are you ready? (End The Lie, April 21, 2012):

Thirteen months have passed since the Fukushima reactors exploded, and a U.S. Senator finally got off his ass and went to Japan to see what is going on over there.

What he saw was horrific.

And now he is saying that we are in big trouble.

See the letter he sent to U.S. Ambassador to Japan Ichiro Fujisaki, Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and NRC’s Chairman Gregory Jaczko here.

But what is so ironic about this is that we have been in this heap of trouble since March of 2011. March 17th, to be exact, when the plume of radioactive materials began bombarding the west coast of California.

And Oregon. And Washington. And British Columbia. And later Maine, Europe, and everywhere in between.

Independent researchers, nuke experts, and scientists, from oceanography to entomology and everywhere in between, having been trying to sound the alarm ever since.

The scientists most upset are those who have studied the effects of radiation on health. I’ll say it again, so its really clear: we are in big trouble.

The most preliminary reports of soil contamination are starting to come in from the USGS, who has seemed reluctant to share this information. Los Angeles, California, Portland, Oregon, and Boulder, Colorado, so far have the highest radioactive particle contamination out of the entire US.

That being said, every single city tested across the country showed contamination from Fukushima. What is even more alarming, however, about the numbers coming in, is that they are from samples taken April 5th, of last year.

TEPCO: 35 Ton Machine Fell Into Fukushima Reactor No. 3 MOX Spent Fuel Pool (Japan Times)

For Infinite Unknown readers this is old news, but here it is from the Japan Times & Kyodo News.

Machine fell into MOX spent-fuel pool: Tepco (Japan Times/Kyodo News, April 15, 2012):

Hydrogen blast likely caused 35-ton behemoth’s plunge; no damage seen

A hydrogen explosion at the Fukushima No. 1 plant last March sent a 35-ton machine plunging into the spent-fuel pool of reactor 3, which uses highly dangerous mixed oxide fuel, Tokyo Electric has reported.

“We believe the machine fell into the pool when the (hydrogen) explosion occurred, but we have not found any indication it damaged the pool’s walls and caused any leaks, or that it damaged the spent fuel,” Junichi Matsumoto, a spokesman for Tokyo Electric Power Co., told a news conference Friday.

Japanese Engineer (Former JNES Inspector): ‘There Was A Nuclear Explosion (‘Black Smoke’ – ‘Mushroom Cloud’) At Reactor No. 3 In Addition To A Hydrogen Explosion’

And Reactor No. 4 looks really bad and if it collapses Tokyo (and Japan) will be lost:

Confirmed: Fukushima Reactor No. 4 Is Falling Apart, Wall Was Lost On The South Side (Video, Photos)

Japanese Engineer: “There Was a Nuclear Explosion in Reactor 3 in Addition to a Hydrogen Explosion” (EX-SKF, Dec. 12, 2011):

There are foreign nuclear experts who have said the explosion in Reactor 3 on March 14 at Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant was a nuclear explosion. But this Japanese engineer and whistleblower at JNES (Japan Nuclear Energy Safety Organization) Setsuo Fujiwara says there were two explosions at Reactor 3: a hydrogen explosion, and a nuclear explosion at the Spent Fuel Pool.

The following is my best-effort translation of the interview Fujiwara did with the SPA magazine, without detailed technical knowledge of nuclear physics, subject to revision.

From Zakzak (12/13/2011):

????????????????????????????????????

“The explosion in Reactor 3 at Fukushima I Nuke Plant on March 14 was nuclear!”

???????’????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

So says Mr. Setsuo Fujiwara, who worked at Japan Nuclear Energy Safety Organization (JNES) until the spring of 2010 as nuclear plant inspector. He is one of those experts who know the nuclear power plant facilities and operations in great details.

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

“In the Reactor 3 explosion, there was a flicker of fire, then a vertical, black smoke up the reactor building. A hydrogen explosion does not produce such a black smoke. And the mushroom cloud. It resembles a nuclear explosion.”

??????????????????????????????????????

But according to the government and TEPCO, the nuclear reactors are getting more stable, aren’t they?

New TEPCO Photographs Show Massive Damage To Fukushima Reactor Building 3

New TEPCO Photographs Substantiate Significant Damage to Fukushima Unit 3 from Fairewinds Associates on Vimeo.

Analysis of new Fukushima 3 photographs released last week by TEPCO substantiate Fairewinds’ claim that explosion of Unit 3 began over the spent fuel pool. Fairewinds believes that significant damage has also occurred to the containment system of Fukushima Unit 3, and that the two events (fuel pool explosion and containment breach) did not occur simultaneously. Video also includes brief discussion of tent system being constructed over Fukushima Unit 1.

New TEPCO Photographs Substantiate Significant Damage to Fukushima Unit 3 (Fairewinds Associates):

Hi, I’m Arnie Gundersen from Fairewinds. I would like to talk to you today about some new photographs that were just recently released by Tokyo Electric.

First is the cover that was surrounding Fukushima Unit 1 is almost installed. Now that does not mean it is airtight, but it is better than what was there before.

What they will do with that cover when it is completely installed is they will take the gasses that are being created inside the nuclear reactor and they will run them through filters and go up the stack. So it does not eliminate all of the radiation, but it does capture it and send it up a stack to a much higher elevation. But the liquid radiation is not being trapped by this barrier. It is a start and it is a good start, but they are not there yet.

More importantly, TEPCO just released some pictures of Unit 3 which are worth taking a look at. Now, to back up a little bit, you will recall that as the accident began back in March and April, we dissected some videos of the explosion in Unit 1 and compared it to the explosion in Unit 2.

AND NOW … Meet The 3 Japanese Scientists That Say: ‘Plutonium is Not That Dangerous’ (Video)

Scientists??? Criminals of the worst kind!

“Plutonium is the deadliest substance on the planet since 1 molecule of Plutonium in your body guarantees the development of cancer, according to radiation medicine experts.”
– Dr. Rima Laibow

“You’ve bought the propaganda from the nuclear industry. They say it’s low-level radiation. That’s absolute rubbish. If you inhale a millionth of a gram of plutonium, the surrounding cells receive a very, very high dose. Most die within that area, because it’s an alpha emitter. The cells on the periphery remain viable. They mutate, and the regulatory genes are damaged. Years later, that person develops cancer. Now, that’s true for radioactive iodine, that goes to the thyroid; cesium-137, that goes to the brain and muscles; strontium-90 goes to bone, causing bone cancer and leukemia. It’s imperative that you understand internal emitters and radiation, and it’s not low level to the cells that are exposed. Radiobiology is imperative to understand these days.”

Yellow-Colored Water Accumulated In Basement Of Reactor 3, Believed To Be Leaked Water From Inside the Reactor

Footage of Fukushima No.3 reactor released (NHK, June 15, 2011):

Tokyo Electric Power Company has released video footage taken last week of Number 3 reactor at its crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

The video shows workers wearing protective suits enter the building through a cargo entrance. The roof of the facility was missing with the sky in view because of a hydrogen explosion on March 14th.

The footage also shows the workers advancing while wiping the floor with paper sheets to check the concentration of radioactive substances scattered there.

They were then seen climbing down a stairwell while carefully using dosimeters attached to the tips of poles they were carrying.

The footage also revealed yellow-colored water that had accumulated in the basement. The water is believed to be leaked water that had been injected into the reactor in an effort to lower its temperature.

It will take at least 10 years if not 20 and roughly 10,000 people working on the cleanup. The nuclear business is global. This needs an international effort to clean up Fukushima.”
— Nuclear Engineer Akira Tokuhiro

In an email today, Japanese born, U.S.-educated nuclear engineering professor Tokuhiro wrote the following:

I want to bring up a sensitive point to many who are (may be) identified below.

There is a difference amongst the following: nuclear physicist, nuclear engineer, nuclear reactor operator, nuclear non-proliferation specialist.

During the current crisis, all these ‘experts’ have been in the media.

The ranking of ‘experts’ who REALLY know how the reactor accident took place is as follows.

1) Nuclear reactor operator (he/she is really the forensic surgeon, the auto mechanic who can build and drive the car)
2) Nuclear engineer (he/she is the forensic and internal/external medicine practitioner; the automobile design and analysis engineer)

As for the other two, they only understand the principles. It is as if they know the principles of driving a car but have never driven the car nor designed a car nor repaired a car.

Would you ask a podiatrist about a medical heart condition? Would you ask a medical ethicist? I think you get my point.

TEPCO’s ‘Cold Shutdown’ Lie And What They ‘Forgot’ To Tell You About Fukushima:

Cold shutdown” means the reactor cores – and the used fuel pools – decrease in temperature through 100 degrees C and continue to go down after a couple of days without additional cooling.  If that doesn’t happen within 48 hours, it isn’t going to.  E-V-E-R. The reactors are still ‘in service’ – which means the fuel is still reacting.  It hasn’t happened at Fukushima and it never will.

This is still ongoing:

TEPCO Reports Sharp Rise In Temp In Fukushima (MOX) Reactor No. 3 – Up 40 Degrees In Less Than A Day! – Meltdown?

And now we really have a deadly silence on Fukushima.

Deadly Silence on Fukushima

May 9 — I received the following email a few days ago from a Russian nuclear physicist friend who is an expert on the kinds of gases being released at Fukushima. Here is what he wrote:

About Japan: the problem is that the reactor uses “dirty” fuel. It is a combination of plutonium and uranium (MOX). I suspect that the old fuel rods have bean spread out due to the explosion and the surrounding area is contaminated with plutonium which means you can never return to this place again. It is like a new Tchernobyl. Personally, I am not surprised that the authority has not informed people about this.

I have been following the Fukushima story very closely since the earthquake and devastating tsunami. I have asked scientists I know, nuclear physicists and others about where they find real information. I have also watched as the news has virtually disappeared. There is something extremely disturbing going on, and having lived through the media blackout in France back in April and early May 1986, and speaking to doctors who are deeply concerned by the dramatic increase in cancers appearing at very young ages, it is obvious that information is being held back. We are still told not to eat mushrooms and truffles from parts of Europe, not wild boar and reindeer from Germany and Finland 25 years later.

California Radiation Level Testing

There are a number of shocking issues surrounding the Fukushima disaster in Japan whereby Radiation has been leaked into the surrounding area as well as into the atmosphere. Most alarming now is the cover up of testing and the release of that information in California and the wesern United States. Pictures and video are now being released showing testing occurring at a water treatment facility in California. With the thought of nuclear fragments being blown up to a mile into the sky after the explosions at the Fukushima plant, it makes sense that California need be on alert. Professionals are saying “the most dangerous radioactive contaminant, the Plutonium in the “MOX” fuel,  is very heavy. While kept near ground levels the devastation it can cause is kept localized.”  Now with the new news that it has been blasted up into the atmosphere, the risk of it spreading to the United states and around the globe is a very real and frightening prospect.

Mainstream media was very quick to assure the sheeple that “there is nothing to be concerned about” and for the most part there was not. That is until about a week after the initial explosions which sent radioactive material high into the atmosphere causing it to travel over the Pacific and deposited onto the United States, first in California. Unless there is any reason to discredit the folks at UC Berkeley in California, there is an issue. Rainwater from a storm which passed over California a few days ago was collected tested and had radiation exceeding 18,000% higher than Federal Drinking water standards. Another cause of concern in California and around the United States is how long main stream media takes to actually cover the issue. Over a week had passed before many facts had been released.

“What we have here is a total misconception of types of radiation.” A local professor was noted to say. “It is a typical apples to oranges comparison.” It is widely know and accepted that there is a huge difference between internal radiation exposure from nuclear radioactive pollution in the environment, which bio-accumulates in the food chain, and non-threatening radiation from a piece of fruit or even radiation produced by an x-ray for that matter. Such comparisons don’t change the fact that there is nuclear fallout radiation in the tap water and in milk period. In addition, if radiation is being found in the milk, then it is also in the cows that produced the milk. What is really going on in California and why are we being kept in the dark about the testing which is obviously occurring.

Japan Nuclear Crisis: This Is Like Admitting That MOX Reactor No. 3 Has Been Breached And Has Released Plutonium

Those poor people knew that this will be their last task an that they will die, but they are only cannon fodder in the eyes of the elite puppet governments and the elitists.

And what I heard today in the news is that it is their own fault that they are in such a bad condition!

The Dying ‘Fukushima Fifty’

Japan Encourages a Wider Evacuation From Reactor Area

Mar. 25 (New York Times) TOKYO — News signs emerged on Friday that parts of the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant are so damaged and contaminated that it will be harder to bring the plant under control soon.

At the same time, Japanese officials began encouraging people to evacuate a larger swath of territory around the complex.
Speaking to a national audience at a news conference Friday night two weeks after the magnitude 9.0 earthquake and the devastating tsunami that followed it, Prime Minister Naoto Kan dodged a reporter’s question about whether the government was ordering a full evacuation, saying officials were simply following the recommendation of the Japan Nuclear Safety Commission.

“The situation still requires caution,” Mr. Kan, grave and tired-looking, told the nation. “Our measures are aimed at preventing the circumstances from getting worse.” The authorities said that they would now assist people who want to leave the area from 12 to 19 miles outside the plant and that they were now encouraging “voluntary evacuation” from the area. Those people had been advised March 15 to remain indoors, while those within a 12-mile radius of the plant had been ordered to evacuate.

The United States has recommended that its citizens stay at least 50 miles away.

“The state of the plant is still quite precarious,” Mr. Kan said. “We’re working hard to make sure it doesn’t get worse. We have to ensure there’s no further deterioration.”

One sign of possible deterioration came at reactor No. 3. Workers who were trying to connect an electrical cable to a pump in a turbine building next to the reactor were injured when they stepped into water that was found to be significantly more radioactive than normal. On Friday officials and experts offered conflicting explanations of what went wrong — but all pointed to greater damage to the reactor’s systems and more contamination there than officials indicated earlier.

Two workers were exposed to radiation and burned when water poured over the top of their boots and down around their feet and ankles, officials said.. A third worker was wearing higher boots and did not suffer the same exposure.

Like the injured workers, many of those risking their lives are subcontractors of Tokyo Electric, paid a small daily wage for hours of work in dangerous conditions. In some cases they are poorly equipped and trained for their task.

A Japanese physicist, who asked not to be identified so as not to damage his relations with the establishment, said it was “ridiculous” that the workers had not been wearing full protective gear.

Flashback:

Japan’s Deadly Game of Nuclear Roulette (Must-Read!):

However, many of those reactors have been negligently sited on active faults, particularly in the subduction zone along the Pacific coast, where major earthquakes of magnitude 7-8 or more on the Richter scale occur frequently. The periodicity of major earthquakes in Japan is less than 10 years. There is almost no geologic setting in the world more dangerous for nuclear power than Japan — the third-ranked country in the world for nuclear reactors.

“I think the situation right now is very scary,” says Katsuhiko Ishibashi, a seismologist and professor at Kobe University. “It’s like a kamikaze terrorist wrapped in bombs just waiting to explode.”

When reading the following article keep this fact in mind …

Gamma radiation measurements – on which all those low health risk statements were based – do NOT take into account radiation from alpha-emitting radionuclides such as uranium and plutonium!!!

… and also remember that the fuel rods may have already burned:

Continuing problems raise fears of greater radiation threat (CNN):

High temperatures inside the building that houses the plant’s No. 4 reactor may have caused fuel rods sitting in a pool to ignite or explode, the plant’s owner said.

CNN has changed the article, but you can still see that this exact phrase has been used in the article here.

Here is why Japan’s nuclear disaster could get (much) worse than Chernobyl

Chernobyl

GE, the company that boasts that it “brings good things to life,” was the designer of the nuclear plants that are blowing up like hot popcorn kernels at the Fukushima Daiichi generating plant north of Tokyo that was hit by the double-whammy of an 9.1 earthquake and a hugh tsunami.

The company may escape tens or hundreds of billions of dollars in liability from this continuing disaster, which could still result in a catastrophic total meltdown of one or more of the reactors (as of this writing three of the reactors are reported to have suffered explosions and partial meltdowns, and all could potentially become more serious total meltdowns with a rupture of the reactor container), thanks to Japanese law, which makes the operator–in this case Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) liable. But if it were found that it was design flaws by GE that caused the problem, presumably TEPCO or the Japanese government could pursue GE for damages.

In fact, the design of these facilities–a design which, it should be noted, was also used in 23 nuclear plants operating in the US in Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Vermont–appear to have included serious flaws, from a safety perspective.

The drawings of the plants in question, called Mark I systems, provide no way for venting hydrogen gas from the containment buildings, despite the fact that one of the first things that happens in the event of a cooling failure is the massive production of hydrogen gas by the exposed fuel rods in the core. This is why three of the nuclear generator buildings at Fukushima Daiichi have exploded with tremendous force blasting off the roof and walls of the structures, and damaging control equipment needed to control the reactors.

One would have thought that design engineers at GE would have thought about that possibility, and provided venting systems for any hydrogen gas being vented in an emergency into the building. But no. They didn’t.

There is a worse problem though. Probably in an effort to keep the problem of nuclear waste hidden from the public, these plants feature huge pools of water up in the higher level of the containment building above the reactors, which hold and store the spent fuel rods from the reactor. These rods are still “hot” but besides the uranium fuel pellets, they also contain the highly radioactive and potentially biologically active decay products of the fission process–particularly radioactive Cesium 137, Iodine 131 and Strontium 90. (Some of GE’s plants in the US feature this same design. The two GE Peach Bottom reactors near me, for example, each have two spent fuel tanks sitting above their reactors.)

As Robert Alvarez, a former nuclear energy adviser to President Bill Clinton, has written, if these waste containers, euphemistically called “ponds,” were to be damaged in an explosion and lose their cooling and radiation-shielding water, they could burst into flame from the resulting burning of the highly flammable zirconium cladding of the fuel rods, blasting perhaps three to nine times as much of these materials into the air as was released by the Chernobyl reactor disaster. (And that’s if just one reactor blows!) Each pool, Alvarez says, generally contains five to ten times as much nuclear material as the reactors themselves. Alvarez cites a 1997 Nuclear Regulatory Commission study that predicted that a waste pool fire could render a 188-square-mile area “uninhabitable” and do $59 billion worth of damage (but that was 13 years ago).

Another nuclear scientist agrees with Alvarez, quoted in an article in the Christian Science Monitor:

“There should be much more attention paid to the spent-fuel pools,” says Arjun Makhijani, a nuclear engineer and president of the anti-nuclear power Institute for Energy and Environmental Research. “If there’s a complete loss of containment [and thus the water inside], it can catch fire. There’s a huge amount of radioactivity inside – far more than is inside the reactors. The damaged reactors are less likely to spread the same vast amounts of radiation that Chernobyl did, but a spent-fuel pool fire could very well produce damage similar to or even greater than Chernobyl.”

Adding to that worry, Alvarez says photos of Reactor 3 seem to show white steam rising from the damaged facility, from a location where the spent fuel pond would likely be.

But it gets worse. According to news reports, the Reactor 3 unit was being fueled with MOX, a controversial mixed oxides fuel rod, which includes, in addition to uranium, a significant amount of plutonium–a far more dangerous element both chemically as a toxin, and in terms of its radioactivity.

You have to ask, what kind of numbskull would put the waste “pond” for spend fuel right above the reactor of a nuclear plant, thus insuring that in the event of a meltdown, not only would the core of the reactor blow up into the environment, but also all of the spent fuel from prior years?
