JERUSALEM — A top Israeli military leader on Wednesday issued a stern warning to the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, saying any future war between the two enemies will unleash “devastating” damage on Lebanon.
Maj. Gen. Yair Golan, Israel’s deputy chief of staff, told foreign journalists that Hezbollah has developed capabilities that present “unprecedented” threats to Israel. Israel estimates the group has over 100,000 rockets and missiles in its arsenal.
Golan said any future war will be “much harsher” than anything experienced in the past 20 years.
“In any future crisis, they are not going to see a small war in Lebanon. It’s going to be decisive. It’s going to be full-scale war,” he said.

Israeli forces have struck the small Lebanese town of Wazzani, north of the Israel-Lebanon border, local media reported, adding that there are fears of damage and injuries. The IDF has confirmed the attack, saying it was retaliatory fire.
Earlier, an explosion targeted an Israeli patrol near the frontier, Hezbollah’s Al Manar television reported. Lebanon’s LBCI News says that several people were injured in the shelling that followed.
Israeli Defense Force spokesman Brig.-Gen. Moti Almoz told the Jerusalem Post that two heavy armored vehicles, including a D-9 bulldozer, were hit, adding that the explosives were “relatively large.”
“We have opened artillery fire, and created a smokescreen to cover the area. We are in control of the incident,” Almoz said.

OCDG: Very short article… This of course doesn’t mention the thousands of Lebanese killed and over a million displaced. Nor does it bring up the massive destruction of infrastructure and the many many cluster bombs/mines left after the “war”. 850 Trillion would be a better estimate.
The UN General Assembly approved on Saturday a resolution calling on Israel to pay Lebanon more than $850 million for damages caused by an oil spill allegedly resulting from attacks by the IDF on oil storage tanks during the Second Lebanon War. The resolution, which was past by a vote of 170 countries supporting and only six opposing, does not obligate Israel to pay.

Lebanese officials have confirmed that the first case of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) coronavirus has reached the country.

Lebanese news service, Naharnet, said the health ministry officials reported that the patient had recently returned from visiting a Persian Gulf country.
– DEPLETED URANIUM (Nuclear Reader):
THIS CHAPTER DISCUSSES DEPLETED URANIUM (DU) AS A PART OF THE NUCLEAR ENERGY CYCLE WITH ATTENTION TO MILITARY USES.
Uranium is mined from the earths crust. It is separated from the rock at a nearby mill leaving behind radioactive sands called tailings which remain hazardous for hundreds of thousands of years. The uranium is then refined for use as fuel for nuclear reactors. A by-product of this process of enriching uranium is Depleted Uranium, or DU. Uranium producing countries are Kazakhstan, Canada, Australia, Namibia, Russia, Niger, Uzbekistan and the United States.
Because of its high density DU is used in armor piercing munitions. It has been employed in Bosnia, Serbia, Kosovo, Lebanon, Gaza, in both Gulf Wars, Afghanistan, North Pakistan, Somalia, Yemen, and now, it seems, Libya, though there has been no official confirmation.
That didn’t take long.
It was only yesterday that Saudi Arabia pledged a record $3 billion to prop up Lebanon’s armed forces, in what the WSJ described as “a challenge to the Iranian-allied Hezbollah militia’s decades-long status as Lebanon’s main power broker and security force.” Lebanese President Michel Sleiman revealed the Saudi gift on Lebanese national television Sunday, calling it the largest aid package ever to the country’s defense bodies. The Saudi pledge compares with Lebanon’s 2012 defense budget, which the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute put at $1.7 billion.

On August 21st, 2013 chemical weapons were used the Syrian conflict yet again. Western powers, the U.S. and France in particular enthusiastically didn’t hesitate for even a moment to take advantage of the tragedy, decrying it as a crime against humanity and using it as a springboard to announce their preparations for military strikes against the Syrian government.
Make no mistake this was a crime against humanity… but the gas was NOT used by the Syrian government, it was used by the NATO backed rebels. In this video we’re going to show you definitive evidence to support this claim and we’re going explain the U.S. and NATO’s motive for committing such an atrocity. – Israeli warplanes continue to pound Damascus (CBS News, April 5, 2013):
BEIRUT Israeli warplanes struck areas in and around the Syrian capital Sunday, setting off a series of explosions as they targeted a shipment of highly accurate, Iranian-made guided missiles believed to be bound for Lebanon’s Hezbollah militant group, officials and activists said.
The attack, the second in three days and the third this year, signaled a sharp escalation of Israel’s involvement in Syria’s bloody civil war. Syrian state media reported that Israeli missiles struck a military and scientific research center near Damascus and caused casualties.
Syria’s government called the attacks against against its territory a “flagrant violation of international law” that has made the Middle East “more dangerous” and warned it has the right “to defend its people by all available means.”

Lebanese security forces inspect damage to Beirut’s predominantly Christian district of Ashrafiyeh on Saturday, October 20. – Assassination of lauded, ‘polarizing’ intelligence official rocks Lebanon (CNN, Oct 20, 2012):
Assassinations of high-profile government figures are not new to Lebanon. Some result from gruesome car bombs, ripping through people and buildings along bustling streets in cities like Beirut.
For years, when such blasts occurred, Brig. Gen. Wissam al-Hassan led the investigations. He was credited with overhauling his nation’s intelligence forces, finding those responsible for targeted killings and preventing fresh attacks.
Al-Hassan and at least two others died in a massive explosion Friday in the typically peaceful and cosmopolitan Ashrafiyeh district of East Beirut that he called home.
