Dr. Donald W. Miller, MD: Iodine for Radioactive Fallout

By Dr. Rima Laibow

First, the Trustees of the Natural Solutions Foundation extend their sympathies to all those who have suffered from the effects of the mega-quake, tsunami and radiological disaster in Japan. We have been discussing how we can help you gain some greater understanding with regard to the radiation risks that face much of the planet; we are all truly “downwind” from the drift of modern technological mistakes and limitations (we note, in addition to the tragedy in Japan, the wide-spread “drift” of GMO pollution of the natural genetic properties of life on this planet and the foreseeable world-wide genetic harm engendered by dangerous vaccines; see: ). Below are Research Notes from Dr. Rima and comments about them, as she Skyped them to me earlier today, in between meetings and seeing patients, as the radiological disaster continued to unfold on the world’s media. [rf]

Dr. Rima: “If ever there was a time for life style change, coupled with a demand for clean, unadulterated food and the protection and support of the supplements that you need now and will need for the rest of your life, it is now. And if ever there was a time to call for the total banning of the two most dangerous misapplications of science in human history, GMOs and nuclear power, that time was yesterday. We missed yesterday so today is the time, and tomorrow and all the tomorrows that these disasters still allow us.”UPDATE 03.19.11: “I’ve sourced a good source of natural Iodine (not the phramaceutical form used for prescription purposes) since the disaster in Japan reminds us all how deficient in Iodine the population is; supplementing will benefit your body no matter what happens; product name: Emerald Sea: www.naturalsolutions.myemeraldstore.com .” rel

[12:08:07 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: Radiation detoxification:

Potassium iodide KI or KIO3, Lugol’s solution works. Iodine has low toxicity: most people are iodine deficient so high doses are advised. Just a couple (2 to 4) per day sipped in juice. Foods that may prevent the body from using iodine are: turnip, cabbage, mustard greens, cassava root, soybeans, peanuts, pine nuts and millet. These foods are called goitrogens and excessive consumption can cause goiters so if you are using them temporarily, eat them raw. [Iodine is sold as a dietary supplement, but if sold to protect the thyroid from radioactive iodine emitted by a reactor accident might be considered a “prescription drug” so remember, you are obtaining it to supplement your diet… rf]

[12:09:12 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: Miso soup made BEFORE March 11, 2011 – traditionally used to detox from electromagnetic overdoses.

[12:10:36 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: Sulfur containing, thiol rich compounds like MSM and foods like asparagus.

[12:14:21 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: Alkalinizing diet and agents (sodium bicarbonate away from food, lemon juice in water).

[12:14:27 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: Large amounts of the freshest, purest water you can get; magnetize your water before drinking or bathing!

[12:17:52 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: Minimum radiation doses which damage tissue:

The relative sensitivity of various body tissues gives a good idea of the wide range of symptoms the body would likely experience due to heavy doses of radiation. The radiation exposure numbers below represent the minimum damaging doses for body tissues. The unit of dose is the “gray” (abbreviated Gy) which is roughly equivalent to a sievert. The gray represents the absorption of an average of one joule of energy per kilogram of mass in the target material and this new unit has officially replaced the “rad,” an older unit (One gray equals 100 rads):

Fetus–2 grays (Gy).
Bone marrow–2 Gy.
Ovary–2-3 Gy.
Testes–5-15 Gy.
Lens of the eye–5 Gy.
Child cartilage–10 Gy.
Adult cartilage–60 Gy.
Child bone–20 Gy.
Adult bone–60 Gy.
Kidney–23 Gy.
Child muscle–20-30 Gy.
Adult muscle–100+ Gy.
Intestines–45-55 Gy.
Brain–50 Gy.

[12:20:53 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: Intravenous EDTA chelation is said to remove radioactive heavy metals. If the contamination is ongoing, the chelationn needs to continue.

[12:21:37 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: Acute Radiation Sickness Symptons

Nausea and vomiting
Diarrhea
Skin burns (skin reddening)
Weakness
Lethargy and fatigue
Loss of appetite (anorexia)
Fainting
Dehydration
Inflammation of tissues (swelling, redness or tenderness)Hemorrhages under the skin
Bleeding from your nose, gums or mouth
Anemia (low red blood cell count)
Hair loss (usually from just the scalp)
Decrease in platelets

[12:23:48 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: L-Glutamine may help rebuild the gut if the GI tract is damaged

If the blood systen is impacted, clean bee pollen and mushroom extracts may be useful to rebuild the immune system; Shark alkyglycerols and Panexx ginseng are known to support platelet formation.

[12:26:57 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: Cancer may strike about 4.5% of people exposed to radiation in the 1-Gy range, and one-quarter of those individuals will likely contract leukemia. Data from Hiroshima residents showed an increased frequency of lymphocyte chromosomal mutations after the blast and workers involved in the Chernobyl cleanup showed a 20% increase in mutation frequency.

[12:30:10 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: All of the well-known cancer preventives become critically important. Radiation damages the system which protects us from cancer and inserts an agent which damages our genetic make-up leading, much as GMOs do, to foreign proteins being coded for by that damaged DNA. The biochemical (i.e., nutritional) protections like abundant antioxidants, avoiding toxins (including GMOs and chemically produced food, dental and other x-rays, TSA scanners, etc.) become crticially important at this time. The danger of radiation exposure is not just short term. When the reactors are capped and controlled, you will still be dealing with the long term dangers associated with radiation exposure, in essence, for the rest of your life.

[12:33:06 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: Physical safety and protection during a radiation emergency:

Close all doors and windows and fireplace dampers (exposed to outside air)
Turn off all fans, air conditioners and heating units that bring in air from the outside (since it may be contaminated)
Bring the family and pets inside
Move to an inner room or basement because it affords much higher radiation shielding

If you are advised to evacuate, follow the directions provided and leave the area as quickly as possible; it may not be possible to self-shield at home, but if that is possible, that may be your safest option. If you have to leave, take along a flashlight, portable radio, batteries, first-aid kit, supply of sealed food and water, can opener, medicine, and sufficient cash and credit cards

[12:37:59 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: Protective Steps to Take:

Iodine supplement are effective in blocking thyroid uptake of radioactive Iodine (I131) but have NO OTHER PROTECTIVE EFFECT – NONE! If you do not have Potassium Iodide tablets or supplement-grade iodine, use tincture of Iodine by painting it on your skin: paint 8 ml of a 2 percent tincture of Iodine on the abdomen or forearm approximately 2 hours prior to I-131 contamination. That would be now. Do it daily until further notice. You will probably notice a general increase in your general health and well-being, as many people are chronically Iodine deficient; but do not over do it!. Do not drink or swallow other forms of iodine because they are poisonous. Do not drink Betadine or iodine water purification tablets!

[12:39:51 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: Take 1 130 mg tablet of KI or KIO3 every 24 hours. Reduce dose based on the weight of children. Nursing and pregnant women should take the adult dose and infants should receive 1/8 tablet.

[12:43:04 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: Cobalt 60 is believed to be drawn out of the body with an Epsom Salts bath.

Instructions: Dissolve 1 pound of sea salt or rock salt and 1 pound of baking soda in a hot bath — as hot as can be tolerated — and soak into the water until the bath becomes cool. This usually takes about 20-25 minutes. Afterward, do not shower or rinse the salt off your body for 4-8 hours.

A Chlorox Bleach bath is believed to remove heavy metals (a serious problem in nuclear reactor accidents) and chemical contaminants. Dr. Parcells, an early pioneer woman chiropractor used to recommend the Chlorox bath for radiation sensitivity; she passed on a couple years ago at age 103.

Chlorox Bath Instructions: Just add 1 cup of regular Clorox bleach to a tub of hot water — as hot as can be tolerated — and once again soak in it until the water becomes cool or body temperature. Don’t wash off for at least 4 hours and make sure you’re using sufficient water. Use a lot of water and do not increase the amount of bleach.

[12:46:09 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: During these baths, it is advisable to sip 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) in warm water. With radioactive fallout, Parcells recommended a stronger mixture of drinking an 8-ounce glass of water containing ¼-teaspoon natural sea salt (Chico-san brand) and ¼-teaspoon baking soda. According to the severity, this was to be drunk every 2-3 hours and each glass was to be taken with 3 tablets of calcium lactate, which is a very easy to absorb form of calcium. If an individual seemed to be experiencing symptoms in the head, sinuses, chest, glands, neck, throat, they were to add ¼-teaspoon of cream of tartar to the mixture. Once again, don’t shower for at least 4 hours after the bath.

[12:49:02 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: Bentonite and other clay baths are important detoxification strategies. Follow the instructions on the product. Do not do detox baths more than once a day.

Organic, uncontaminated brown rice, miso and tamari soy soup, wakame, kombu and other seaweed, Hokkaido pumpkin, and sea salt are traditionally held to be protective against radiation, as the clinical results of atsuichiro Akizuki, M.D in a hospital outside of Nagasaki showed.

[12:52:28 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: Sugar and sweets suppress the immune system and MUST BE AVOIDED at all costs.

[12:53:42 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: 5 grams of spirulina powder per day is said to be protective against radiation sickness, according to the clinical experiences of doctors in Russia following Chernobyl. In fact, Russian health authorities declared that spirulina accelerates the evacuation of radionuclides from the human body. Spirulina contains large amounts of beta carotene, a compound which prevents free radical damage to cells and is useful in treating and preventing cancer, and free iron, which helps people recover from the anemia which leads to a great many of the radiation-related problems following exposure.

[12:54:31 PM] Ralph Fucetola JD: a note just in from Dr. Elizabeth Martin: “I do remember reading a book about people in Hiroshima after the aotmic bomb attack there (I suppose it was the same in Nagasaki), being helped by eating miso and seaweed. Many people lived through that nightmare who I would have thought couldn’t survive, Some are still living.”

[12:55:04 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: Spirulina also contains high proportions of metallo-thionine compounds which combine with radioactive metals so they can be eliminated, another protective effect of the super algae.

[1:00:11 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: Sodium alginate (Alginic acid) is found in kelp, bladderwrack and fertilizer seaweed. Their consumption allowed many Japanese atomic bomb victims to survive since Sodium alginate binds with radioactive strontium. If this is accurate, kelp with its Iodine content may be doubly beneficial in the current circumstances.

[1:02:30 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: Eating members of the kelp family, including kombu, sea palm, wakame, is a very, very good idea, but it must not come from the Pacific AFTER this radiation accident! Chlorella is said to have a radioprotective effect because it is held to absorb gamma rays emitted from the radioactive particles in your body following contamination. A chlorophyll rich diet increases the survival of experimental animals after lethal doses of radiation and chlorella has the highest chloryophyll diet of any plant known.

[1:12:14 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: I do not recommend zeolyte compounds because while they may trap heavy metals, they often include aluminum compounds and it makes no sense to introduce a known toxin into the body to remove other toxins. I know this puts me at odds with those who swear by their zeolyte products, but since there are other ways to accomplish the same goals, I cannot see why we should put them in our bodies. After all, we rage about aluminum in vaccines and aluminum in chemtrails.

[1:15:04 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: Bentonite clay, too, while good at absorbing radioactive particles, as zeolites are, by the way, can be up to 65% aluminum. Unless there is an emergency reason for using these substances, and with radiation poisoning, there may well be, please be very, very cautious about using these substances internally.

[1:15:50 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: It is reported that LL’s Magnetic Clay Baths has a superior Environmental Detox Bath, composed of bentonite clay with less than .5% aluminum content and no emulsifiers and would be my bentonite of choice.

[1:18:48 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: Homeopathic Remedies which have been studied for their capacity to reduce radiation damage to cells include:

Ginseng 6x, 30x, 200x
Ruta graveolens 30x and 200x
Apis mellifica 7c or 9c for skin damage
N-4 Radiation Antitox, produced by Apex Energetics is said to protect against ionizing radiation (radioactivity)
RADIUM BROMATUM (radium bromide) 30c or 12c
URANIUM NITRICUM (nitrate of uranium) for uranium exposure
PLUTONIUM NITRICUM lacks information, but should theoretically help with plutonium exposure. One or more of the Japanese plants is a MOX or Mixed Oxides of Plutonium plant. Plutonium is the deadliest substance on the planet since 1 molecule of Plutonium in your body guarantees the development of cancer, according to radiation medicine experts.
ANACARDIUM is said to be useful to eliminate the side effects of radiation poisoning
PHOSPHORUS may alleviate the symptoms of post radiation exposure as well.

The Schuessler cell salts which may be needed after radiation exposure are:

Calcarea Phosphorica (Phosphate of Lime), abbreviated as Calc. Phos
Kali Phosphoricum (Phosphate of Potash or Potassium) or Kali. Phos
Magnesia Phosphorica (Magnesium Phosphate) or Mag. Phos.
Natrum Phosphoricum (Phosphate of Soda) or Nat. Phos.
Ferrum Phosphoricum (Phosphate of Iron) or Fer. Phos.
Natrum Sulphuricum (Sulphate of Soda) or Nat. Sulph.
Kali Sulphuricum (Sulphate of Potash) or Kali. Sulph.
Calcarea Sulphurica (Sulphate of Lime) or Calc. Sulph.
Kali Muriaticum (Chloride of Potash) or Kali. Mur.
Natrum Muriaticum (Sodium Chloride) or Nat. Mur.
Calcium Fluorica (Fluoride of Lime) or Calc. Fluor.
Silicea (Silica)

[1:22:14 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: David Wolf just Skyped these suggestions: kelp, ginseng, ashwaganda (recently found to regrow nerves), chlorella, zeolites, fulvic acid, nascent iodine, reishi mushroom, sea salt (also salty miso), botanical (plant-derived) or lipo- vitamin C, magnesium (chlorophyll), selenium (brazil nuts), coconut butter (coconut products), Megahydrate, Crystal Energy.

[1:29:33 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: SeaCure, SeaVive and yeast, sardines, animal liver (organically raised animals, please!) are rich in nucleotides, necessary for the repair of DNA and damaged cells. Diets rich in these components are highly recommended if you are experiencing the effects of radiation contamination. Other rich sources of nucleotides are anchovies, mackerel, lentils, most beans, animal liver, oysters, chlorella and spirulina. But remember, they MUST be sourced from non Pacific waters and, because of the BP corexit disaster, from non Gulf sources as well.

[1:45:20 PM] Ralph Fucetola JD: Interesting site, with a USA map of radiation detectors updated every 3 minutes: http://www.radiationnetwork.com/

[2:00:40 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: All miso products, organic ones, of course, are useful in providing compounds which have been shown to be radio protective. Fermented soy products, such as miso and tempeh, are very important. But soy products, including soy milk, do not have that ability and suppress the thyroid, as do cabbage family members.

[2:02:06 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: ORGANIC black, green, rooibus teas are good beverages because they, too, help with free radical damage. Truly all-natural, toxin free Coffee (such as our Valley of the Moon Coffee™ – www.ValleyoftheMoonCoffee.com) is both a rich source of antioxidants but also a tonic to the liver.

[2:03:30 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: When my patients first come to me, I generally put them on what I call “Mama Rima’s No White Diet” for 3 weeks. They feel substantially better most of the time because they are eating a low-free radical generating diet and an anti-inflammatory diet as well. The diet consists of NO wheat, NO sugar and NO dairy whatsoever. It is a high fiber diet since they are eating a lot of organic fruits and veggies. Not surprisingly, the same diet is highly recommended for people counteracting the effects of radiation poisoning or contamination. High fiber diet intake helps to get rid of toxins in the intestine. Water does the same. So will tea, although tea is somewhat dehydrating so clean, non-radioactive water must be taken in abundance in addition.

[2:07:13 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: Chitosan, made from crab shells, will also eliminate heavy metals and particles from the intestinal tract.

[2:08:23 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: Cesium 137 is a serious problem and is currently being emitted by the radiation contamination in Japan. Foods high in Calcium and Potassium are very helpful in replacing it and helping it to be eliminated from the body.

[2:11:44 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: Vitamin D is depleted by Strontium 90 so extra Vitamin D3 is a very good idea. Lots of Vitamin D3 — at least 5,000 IU per day is generally a good idea for immune system health. Iodine, Zinc, Calcium and Sulfur are important supplements as well to prevent their radioactive counterparts from becoming part of your biology. I strongly recommend a high potency mineral supplement and MSM (the sulfur compound, not the ClDO2 liquid) on a daily basis except when you are having a chelation treatment that day. Other minerals which are both protective and important on their own for healthy functioning includes selenium, vanadium and boron.

[2:14:01 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: Nutrients should be taken in high potency supplements as well including lycopene, beta carotene (mentioned above) and, of course, the grand daddy of all the free radical quenchers, high doses of Vitamin C. Vitamin C with BioFlavinoids like Rutin are essential, as are glutathione, NAC, and alpha lipoic acid. Whey and soy protein powder, which contain high amounts of cysteine, are also often given to cancer patients (one tablespoon daily) because of their high cysteine content which allows the body to make more glutathione.

[2:19:11 PM] Rima Laibow, MD: The free ebook, How to Help Support the Body’s Healing After Intense Radioactive or Radiation Exposure, available at http://www.radiationdetox.com/ contains a great deal of information well distilled and easily understood. I strongly recommend that you download this 121 page manual and store it on a disc for later reference. While I do not share the author’s opinion in all areas, I do not know of a better, more accessible source for this information.

Many, but not all, of the substances and supplements referred to are available at www.Organics4U.org. Purchasing from this store means that you are protecting and supporting your body and health freedom at the same time so we urge you to do so.

Recommended Foods and Supplements to Help Protect Your Health

A balanced body can heal itself … but it needs your help. It’s important to pay close attention to the foods and dietary supplements you consume. Here’s why.

Diet and your body’s susceptibility to radiation are closely entwined. Radiation and pollutants destroy vitamins A, C, E, K several N vitamins, essential fatty acids, calcium and neuro-hormones. If your body lacks calcium. Potassium and other nutrients, it will more readily absorb the radioactive elements that are similar in structure to these nutrients.
Your best bet is to eat natural, fresh, organic (as much as possible) unprocessed foods, avoiding, white sugar, red meat, refined wheat, caffeine and homogenized milk. Here is a list of widely recommended foods and food supplements that can help to balance your body chemistry. This list is by no means exhaustive, but it will give you a good starting place.

PROTECTIVE SUPPLEMENTS

1. Calcium/magnesium
The New England Journal of Medicine reported that calcium may prevent precancerous cells from becoming cancerous. It also protects against strontium 90 (similar structure to calcium) and other radioisotopes.
2. Vitamin A or beta carotene
This vitamin manufactures antibodies, maintains and protects mucus membranes, and protects the thymus gland, the master gland of the immune system. It helps guard against tumor formation and cancer, as well as reverses aging process of the skin caused by ultraviolet light
3. Coenzyme Q10
This substance protects against many chemicals and radiation, offering immense benefits to the immune system and retarding the aging process. Sufferers of heart problems, high blood pressure, angina, and obesity often find this substance to be helpful in managing symptoms. Natural levels decline with age; therefore, supplementation is needed.
4. Vitamin C + bioflavinoids and rutin
A protective dose of between 500mg and 2,000 mg can counteract toxins and radiation.
5. Vitamin E
Neutralizes harmful free radicals and protects delicate membranes.
6. Zinc
Helps strengthen the T-cell-producing thymus gland. Aim for 50 to 100 mg daily, available from grains, nuts, seeds and legumes.
7. Selenium
Selenium fights cancer and protects against carcinogens, by helping to produce a free radical scavenger called glutathione peroxidase.
8. Proanthocyanadins (Grape seed extract/Pycnogenol)
Considered to be one of the most powerful antioxidants or free radical scavengers, grape seed extract helps counteract stress, pollution and radiation
9. DHEA
The most dominant hormone in the body, DHEA is considered the “Fountain of Youth” hormone because it can help extend life span. DHEA helps counteract the negative effects of stress, boosts the immune system, regulates blood cholesterol and lowers blood pressure. It rebalances the hormones in the body, especially during menopause, slows the production of free radicals, and inhibits the growth of cancers and carcinogens. A good food source of DHEA is wild yams.
10. Melatonin
This valuable cancer-inhibiting hormone is often used to replenish the levels of melatonin, a hormone secreted by the pineal gland that affects the sleep cycle, fertility and the immune system. It’s often used to prevent and counteract jet lag and can rebalance the pineal gland after electric field exposure.

PROTECTIVE FOODS

1. Chlorophyll-containing foods: barley grass and chlorella.
Chlorophyll closely resembles human blood and is used to cleanse, detoxify, purify and heal many con¬ditions. It retards bacterial growth, detoxifies heavy metals from the body, increases wound healing, detoxifies the liver and other organs, deodorizes the body, removes putrefactive bacteria from the colon, aids healing of 11 types of skin diseases, relieves ulcers, gastritis, pancreatitis and other inflamma¬tory conditions, helps heal gum diseases, and inhibits radiation and the metabolic activation of many carcin¬ogens. Many studies have reported the protective effects of chlorophyll on irradiated animals.
There are pure chlorophyll supplements available if you don’t like to eat grass or algae. Better yet, try one of the following whole foods, all which are excellent sources of chlorophyll and other essential nutrients.
• Barley (wheat) grass is a totally balanced food. It contains all of the nutrients required for life¬; vitamins, minerals, enzymes and other proteins (a¬mino acids), essential fatty acids and chlorophyll. Barley grass has thousands of living enzymes (a special protein). Enzymes are nature’s biological catalysts that initiate all the chemical transforma¬tions in the body. Over 3,000 enzymes have been identified. They are required for every transforma¬tion in the body – digestion, cell respiration, bod¬ily movements, thinking processes, detoxification, cancer control, fat, protein and carbohydrate metabo¬lism, etc.
The normal daily amount of barley grass is 1-3 teaspoons (1 tsp = 2 grams). If you choose wheat grass (juice), start with one ounce daily and gradually increase to four or six ounces.
• Chlorella, a green freshwater micro-algae which has even more chlorophyll than barley (wheat) grass plus 55-65% protein with 19 amino acids including all the essential ones. It’s an excellent source of beta-carotene, vitamins B-l, B-2, B-3, B-6, B-12, pantothenic acid, folic acid, biotin, PABA, inositol and vitamin C. Vitamin B-12 is especially important for vegetarians who may be deficient in this vitamin. Chlorella has more B-12 than liver. It also contains important minerals – iron, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, zinc, potassium, sulphur, iodine and trace amounts of manganese, sodium and chlorine.
Chlorella comes in a small pill form which may be more palatable to some people.
2. Miso
Made from naturally fermented soybeans, rice or barley, miso is a superior source of usable whole protein, aids digestion and assimilation, is low in fats, has a wonderful salty flavor, promotes health and helps neutralize environmental pollution including radia¬tion. The reason for Miso’s protectiveness is not really known. It was observed that the Japanese who ate miso everyday did not die from radiation-induced cancer after the bombs at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The observed effect of miso as a cancerostatic agent was further confirmed in a recent study in Japan.
3. Fermented (Lactic acid) vegetables and juices
Lac¬tic acid fermented foods possess medicinal properties and can in the biological treatment of many conditions, including cancer, ar¬thritis, multiple sclerosis, kidney and liver di¬seases, and digestive disorders. Sources include sauerkraut, beets, carrots, green and red pepper, beet tops, Swiss chard and celery.
4. Cultured (fermented) milk products: yogurt, kefir, buttermilk, unprocessed cheese.
Longevity studies indicate that groups of people who use cultured milk products in their diet live longer. Real yogurt is made from fresh whole (unhomogenized) milk with billions of living friendly bacteria, a minimum of honey or fructose, and perhaps some real fruit.
Yogurt, kefir and other fermented milks contain an unidentified substance that lowers chol¬esterol. Yogurt is an excellent substitute for ice cream in milk shakes and smoothies. Use it on potatoes instead of sour cream. Make your own salad dress¬ings with yogurt, honey, vinegar and spices.
These products also contain friendly bacteria, such as lactobacillus acidophilus and other strains per¬form valuable duties in your colon. These bacteria colonize the colon and evict unfriendly, dangerous bacteria and other organ-isms from your colon. These bacteria also synthe¬size germ-destroying antibodies in your colon.
5. Cruciferous vegetables (cabbage, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, turnips, cabbage, spinach, cauliflower, and greens such as kale)
This family of vegetables contain substances that inhibit breast and colon cancer cell growth. Cabbage and other cruciferous vegetables also contain dithiolthiones, a non-toxic group of compounds that have antioxidant, anti-cancer and anti-radiation properties.
Sources include dark, leafy vege¬tables (broccoli, spinach, kale, Swiss chard, ro¬maine, endive, chicory, escarole, watercress, col¬lard, mustard and dandelion greens), dark yellow and orange vegetables (carrots, sweet potatoes, yams, pumpkins, winter squash) and fruits (cantaloupe, apricots, peaches, papayas and watermelon).
6. High-fiber foods: whole grains, fruits and vegetables
Epidemiological data suggests that a high-fiber diet protects against large bowel can¬cer perhaps for several reasons. It dilutes bowel carcinogens, decreases colon transit time and changes the composition and metabolic activity of the fecal flora and certain carcinogenic substances in the col¬on. That’s why it’s healthier to eat whole grains containing the bran and the fiber, and whole fruits and vegetables instead of their processed, partition¬ed counterparts.
7. Foods containing a natural Vitamin A
Such as lima beans, potatoes, yams, sweet potatoes, asparagus, tomatoes, onions and spinach), fruits (mango, grapes, avocado, pears, oranges plus the white under the peel and pulps, apples plus seeds and peeling, strawberries), all un¬sprouted seeds (especially sunflower, sesame and pump¬kin), all nuts (especially almonds and cashews), leafy green vegetables, carob and teas from fruit blossoms and leaves (peach flowers, strawberry leaves, cherry flowers, apple blossoms), and all grasses, such as wheat and barley.
The vitamin A analog, abscisic acid, is found in large amounts in the grasses, seeds, nuts, legumes, mature leaves, and fruits listed above and in the apri¬cot pit. The body makes abscisic acid in vivo (inside) from raw carrot juice and raw liver.
8. Sesame seeds – raw, ground (tahini) or in capsules.
Sesame seed oil contains a substance called Complex T, the primary effect of which is to increase blood platelets – a must for fighting infection.
If you don’t like pills, just eat raw sesame seeds or tahini. In addition to Complex T, sesame seeds contain valuable essential fatty acids (EFAs) that are important workers in the immune system.
9. Sea vegetables and their products
Sodium alginate, a non¬nutritious extract from Pacific kelp used to bind and detoxify heavy metals from the body (such as lead, mercury, cadmium, etc.), and agar, used as a thickening agent instead of gelatin or corn starch, will protect the human body from radiation effects. They also reduce absorption of strontium 90 by 50-80%.
Kelp and dulse, excellent natural sources of iodine, help protect against radioactive iodine, found mostly in milk. When the diet is adequately supplied with organic iodine (as in kelp), radioiodine is not as readily absorbed by the thyroid or the ovaries. Kelp contains 150,000 mcg of iodine per 100 grams (32 ounces). The RDA of iodine is 150-200 mcg. A reasonable daily dose of kelp would be 1-2 teaspoons of granules or 5-10 tablets. Other high iodine foods include: seafood, beef liver, pineapple, eggs and whole wheat.
Note: Taking kelp as a source of iodine is much safer than drinking iodine or eating potassium iodide, which can be especially dangerous for pregnant women and can cause allergic reactions. Iodine (inorganic) is toxic because of its tendency to combine with pro¬tein. That’s how it destroys bacteria (a protein). When you put iodine into your mouth, it combines with the protein there and in your stomach or wherever it goes. This causes irritation or worse. Also, sud¬den large doses of iodine in humans with a normal thy¬roid may reduce the synthesis of thyroid hormone.
10. Bee and flower pollen
Pollen is an excellent food containing all essential amino acids, vitamins A, D, E, K, C, bioflavanoids, B-complex (especially pantothenic acid and B-3), and 27 miner¬als.
Research has proven pollen to be beneficial in treating several diseases. Dr. Emil Chauvin (French Academy of Science) discovered bee pollen was beneficial in treating anemia (increases red blood cells and hemoglobin), chronic prostatis, constipation, flatulence and colon infec¬tions, especially diarrhea.
Dr. Peter Hernuss at the University of Vienna’s Women’s Clinic conducted a study involving 25 women with inoperative uterine cancer. All received radiotherapy. The 15 who took 20 grams of bee pollen three times a day tolerated the ra¬diation much better than the ten who took no bee pol¬len.
11. Essential fatty acids, GLA and EPA
EFAs are essential for proper functioning of the immune system and protects against cancer. Food sources include flax seed oil, evening primrose oil and certain fish, particularly salmon.

SPECIAL TEAS

1. Pau d’arco (also called ipe roxo, la pacho, taheebo, and bowstick tea). An herbal tea from the inner bark of two trees that grow in the warmer part of South America (Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia, etc.). Many South American doc¬tors use a therapeutic tea from this herb to relieve pain and treat many conditions including leukemia and other forms of cancer, infections including yeast and other fungal conditions, skin rashes, and many other ailments.
Dr. Theodoro Meyer of the Univer¬sidad Nacional of Tucuman, a province of the Argen¬tine Andes, studied taheebo’s chemical composition and found a substance called xyloidin, an antibiotic capable of killing viruses. Dr. Prats Ruiz, M.D., of Concepcion, a city in Tucuman province, reported blood profiles of patients with leukemia before and after treatment with taheebo to document the effi¬cacy of taheebo in treatment of certain cancers. Clinical details are provided by Professor Carlos Hugo Burgstaller in his book on the medicinal flora of Paraguay and Argentina, LA VUELTA A LOS VEGETALES (Buenos Aires, 1968).
This tea was widely available in many health food stores until news of its anticancer claims became widespread. There is now an FDA effort to prohibit its sale in the United States. It has already been taken off the Canadian market to be “reclassified as an over-the-counter drug” because of the healing claims made for it. FDA approval of a drug for a specific use takes 8-12 years and costs about $56 million (1982 estimate).
2. SAFFRON TEA. Contains colchicine, a substance that has been used in the treatment of leukemia. It also lowers uric acid (high in those who have a tendency towards gout and/or cardiovascular disease).
3. THYME TEA. Often used as a remedy after x-rays. Just steep one tablespoon of thyme per pint of hot water for 20 minutes, then cool and strain.
4. BLACK TEA (CONTAINING TANNIN) AND HONEY. Used for radiation protection in China.
