The Austrian parliament has canceled a March 8 ceremony commemorating female victims of WWII, allegedly because of concerns over a 90-year-old Holocaust survivor, who compares Israel to the Nazis, although a direct connection was denied.

The event was to be held on International Women’s Day, but was canceled two days after the invitations were sent, the Jerusalem Post learned on Sunday.

“In consideration for the concerns against some of the participants, the Austrian Parliament has canceled the event ‘In Grandmother’s Words: The Fate of Women in the Second World War,’” Parliament spokeswoman Marianne Lackner said.

Last week large numbers of people turned up at Austrian hospitals because of a flu epidemic, but had to wait to see doctors whilst asylum seekers were seen to get priority treatment. Now health officials have admitted they were ordered not to make asylum seekers wait but to give them fast track treatment.

The reason given is that part of the asylum process sees migrants receiving a health check for which expensive translators are needed to aid communication with doctors, and Austrian officials do not want to pay translators to sit in waiting rooms.

Austria’s government is set to announce ten new ‘border management systems’ to secure its southern border crossings in Tyrol and Carinthia, a place where migrants faced with stricter controls at the border with Slovenia are likely to cross.

The measures will include fences, barriers and increased patrols by police and soldiers. There will also be army patrols on Austria’s border with Hungary, the main crossing point for migrants last summer.

When the girl resisted and called out, she was violently assaulted and told in broken German to be quiet. The assault ended and the sex offenders fled as a a tram approached. There have been no arrests.

Austrian Health Minister Sabine Oberhauser and a number of Italian Ministries have confirmed that both countries are officially requesting an opt-out from growing the eight varieties of  GM maize permitted or set to be permitted at the EU level, thus there will now be a full ban on GM crops in both countries under new EU regulations.

“Austria has made use of the newly created EU opt-out rules for the authorization of genetically modified crops,” Oberhauser stated on Wednesday. She further added that Austria’s geographical opt-out demand was delivered to the European Commission earlier this week.

Earlier today the Austrian Central Bank confirmed the Kronen-Zeitung report, and said that by the year 2020, it would hold 50%, or 140 tons, of its gold domestically, up from 17% currently. This means that Austria will withdraw some 140 tons of gold from the BOE which holds 80% of Austria’s gold currently and send 92.4 tons back home to Vienna with another 47.6 tons being sent to Switzerland. Which is also the biggest news: Austria is explicitly demonstrating a lack of confidence in the “pro-western” system of which the Bank of England is a critical cog, and instead opting for “neutral” Switzerland, which will hold nearly 50 tons of the gold formerly located at the Bank of England.
