California Wants To Slap A ‘Carbon Tax’ On Gasoline
… and to steal more money from the people.
– California wants to slap a ‘carbon tax’ on gasoline (The Daily Caller, Feb 21, 2014):
California lawmakers want to put a carbon tax on gasoline and other vehicle fuels to curb carbon dioxide emissions and fight global warming. Golden State residents already face some of the highest energy and fuel costs in the country, but carbon tax proponents say the tax would go to help mitigate the effects of global warming on the poor.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Democratic state Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg proposed legislation that would slap a 15 cents per gallon tax on fuels sold in the state which would rise to 24 cents per gallon in 2020. The fuel tax is expected to raise $3.6 billion in the first year and would fund public transit projects as well as a new tax credit for families earning less than $75,000 per year.
Steinberg justified his gas tax increase as aid for the poor, who are most impacted by global warming.

Russia To Add ‘Stealth’ Submarines To Mediterranean Force
– Russia To Add “Stealth” Subs To Mediterranean Force (ZeroHedge, Feb 23, 2014):
Many have been surprised by the lack of public response by Russia to the ongoings in Ukraine. Aside from some comments by Siluanov, the response has been concerning in its absence from the iron fist. However, quietly and with little new coverage, RiaNovosti reports that the combat capability of Russia’s naval task force in the Mediterranean will increase significantly – for the first time in decades – following the first deliveries of Varshavyanka-class submarines (with advanced stealth technology dubbed “black holes in the ocean”) to the Black Sea Fleet.
Via RiaNovosti,
Russia formed a permanent naval task force in the Mediterranean last year to defend its interests in the region. The move was widely seen, however, as a response to calls for international intervention in the worsening civil war in Syria, Russia’s longtime ally.
The task force currently consists of 12 warships and auxiliary vessels, including the nuclear-powered missile cruiser Pyotr Veliky and aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov.

Deliberate Cover-Up Of Japan Public’s Exposure To Fukushima Radiation
NPR’s ‘Weekend Edition’, Feb. 15, 2014: The cleanup at the crippled nuclear reactor at Fukushima, Japan has been plagued by problems. Contaminated water has leaked into the ocean, radiation levels are higher than originally announced and the Japanese public is suspicious that [TEPCO] isn’t telling the whole story. >> Listen to the broadcast here
NPR, Feb. 15, 2014: Some critics say that TEPCO can’t be trusted and that the world’s largest nuclear accident is still waiting to happen at Fukushima, such as an accidental nuclear reaction […] TEPCO dismisses predictions like this as alarmist. Japanese themselves are highly divided on the issue […] shutting down the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant will go on for a long time. TEPCO predicts it could last 30 or 40 years. Others say that estimate is blindly optimistic.

Nuclear Expert On Florida Nuke Plant; ‘The Damn Thing Is Grinding Down’ – Gundersen: ‘Magnitude Of What’s Going On At St. Lucie Is Off The Charts’; 100 Times Worse Than Industry Average
– Nuclear Expert: “They must be terrified” at South Florida nuke plant; “The damn thing is grinding down” — Gundersen: “Magnitude of what’s going on at St. Lucie is off the charts”; 100 times worse than average (ENENews, Feb 22, 2014):
Tampa Bay Times, Feb. 22, 2014: Yet another Florida nuclear plant may be in trouble. […] More than 3,700 tubes that help cool a nuclear reactor at Florida Power & Light’s St. Lucie facility exhibit wear. Most other similar plants have between zero and a few hundred. Worst case: A tube bursts and spews radioactive fluid. That’s what happened at the San Onofre plant in California two years ago. The plant shut down forever because it would have cost too much to fix. […] FPL is so confident in St. Lucie’s condition that it boosted the plant’s power. The utility acknowledged that will aggravate wear on the tubes, located inside steam generators. […] FPL insisted St. Lucie should not be linked to San Onofre from either a safety or financial standpoint.[…] During hearings, [officials at San Onofre] repeatedly pointed to St. Lucie as having the same problem […] When it closed, San Onofre 3 had 2,519 wear spots at least 20 percent deep into a tube wall. When last inspected in 2012, the St. Lucie plant had 1,920, the Times analysis found.

G-20 Agrees To Grow Global Economy By $2 Trillion, Has No Idea How To Actually Achieve It
– G-20 Agrees To Grow Global Economy By $2 Trillion, Has No Idea How To Actually Achieve It (ZeroHedge, Feb 23, 2014):
Apparently all it takes to kick the world out of a secular recession and back into growth mode, is for several dozen finance ministers and central bankers to sit down and sign on the dotted line, agreeing it has to be done. That is the take home message from the just concluded latest G-20 meeting in Syndey, where said leaders agreed that it is time to finally grow the world economy by 2% over the next 5 years.
The final G-20 communiqué announced its member nations would take concrete action to increase investment and employment, among other reforms. “We will develop ambitious but realistic policies with the aim to lift our collective GDP by more than 2 percent above the trajectory implied by current policies over the coming 5 years,” the G20 statement said.

Obama Violated His Own Rules With Yemen Drone Strike (Video)
YouTube Added: Feb 21, 2014
Description:
President Barack Obama violated his own rules for the use of drone strikes in a December 2013 strike on a wedding procession in Yemen, a new report from Human Rights Watch says. The US military initially claimed that the procession was actually members of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, then admitted it was a wedding procession, but claimed that most of the people killed in the attack were members of the terrorist organization. But Human Rights Watch says, “The procession also may have included members of AQAP, although it is not clear who they were or what was their fate.” The group went on to say that there is no evidence that members of the caravan posed an imminent threat, and that killing them was a violation of international human rights laws. RT’s Meghan Lopez speaks with investigative journalist Ben Swann about US drone policy and whether the attack was a violation of Obama’s own stated rules.

Monsanto’s Roundup Causes ‘Gluten Intolerance’
– Study: Monsanto’s Roundup causes “gluten intolerance” (John Rappoport, Feb 21, 2014):
A recent study proposes that gluten intolerance and celiac disease are on the rise as a result of glyphosate, the main ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide.
The National Library of Medicine states that celiac disease “damages the lining of the small intestine and prevents it from absorbing parts of food that are important for staying healthy. The damage is due to a reaction to eating gluten, which is found in wheat, barley, rye, and possibly oats.”
The study authors, Anthony Samsel and Stephanie Seneff, have a different view. They point out that this rise in celiac disease parallels the increase in the use of Roundup, and the effects of glyphosate are those listed for celiac disease.
