Dalai Lama says Europe has accepted ‘too many’ refugees

Dalai Lama says Europe has accepted ‘too many’ refugees:

Tibet’s spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, thinks that Europe has accepted too many refugees, saying that they should stay only temporarily and return to rebuild their home countries once the conflicts there have been resolved.

Speaking in Dharamsala in northern India where the Tibetan government resides in exile, the Dalai Lama said in an interview with the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that “When we look into the face of every single refugee, especially the children and women, we can feel their suffering.”

“A human being who is a bit more fortunate has the duty to help them. On the other hand, there are too many now,” he added.

He said that countries taking in refugees should take a healthy look at the situation and realize that it’s not possible for all of the newcomers to be integrated into European society, stressing that the main goal for Europe’s leaders is to provide them with temporary shelter.

“Europe, for example Germany, cannot become an Arab country. Germany is Germany,” he said. “There are so many that in practice it becomes difficult.”

HSBC … When 87,000 Job Cuts Isn’t Enough

HSBC

When 87,000 Job Cuts Isn’t Enough:

HSBC is ripe for management change, if a recent survey by Autonomous Research is to be believed.

The results of a poll of 74 investors singled out Chief Executive Stuart Gulliver as the top choice for removal, according to the Financial Times. This might make sense, on the face of it, because the outlook for the U.K. bank isn’t great.

Tony Blair Gets Away with Committing War Crimes:

Inquiry decides it will not make “any judgments” on Blair’s crimes against humanity

People wonder why Hillary Clinton has yet to face an indictment for breaking the law. Looking at the email scandal, it is obvious she violated at least two laws, and yet the FBI investigation against her is going nowhere and the Justice Department is not even remotely considering an indictment.

The reason for this is simple.

The Fascinating Story Of How The Petrodollar Was Born And Lived In Secrecy For Over 40 Years

The Fascinating Story Of How The Petrodollar Was Born And Lived In Secrecy For Over 40 Years:

For decades, the story of Saudi Arabia recycling petrodollars, i.e., funding the US deficit by buying US Treasuries with proceeds of its crude oil sales (mostly to the US), while the US sweetened the deal by providing the Saudis with military equipment and supplies, remained entirely in the conspiracy realm, with no confirmation or official statement from the US Treasury department.

Now, that particular “theory” becomes the latest fact, thanks to a fascinating story by Bloomberg which gives the background and details of secret meeting between then-US Treasury secretary William Simon and his deputy, Gerry Parsky, and members of the Saudi ruling elite, and lays out the history of how the petrodollar was born.

Here is the background:

Ex-Miss Turkey in hot water for ‘insulting Erdogan’ amid crackdown on free speech:

Miss Turkey 2006 has been found guilty for sharing a poem deemed insulting to the Turkish head of state in the latest of some 2,000 defamation cases President Erdogan filed in two years under a law that bans insulting the president.

The Istanbul court gave 27-year-old Merve Buyuksarac a suspended sentence of 14 months for “publicly insulting” the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on condition that she does not reoffend within the next five years.

The case was based on a satirical verse she reposted on her Instagram account in 2014.

The so-called ‘Master’s Poem, ’ an adaptation of the Turkish national anthem, allegedly criticizes Erdogan, who served as prime minister for more than a decade prior to becoming president and has often been called “Buyuk Usta” [the Big Master]. The poem did not mention Erdogan by name, but made reference to a corruption scandal that allegedly involved his family.

Here’s proof that the US dollar is insanely overvalued

Dollar-Purchasing-Power-1913-to-2013

Here’s proof that the US dollar is insanely overvalued:

Shocking. Astonishing. Jaw dropping.

There’s just no other way to describe how cheap South Africa is right now.

Between the worldwide decline in commodities prices, and a major crisis of confidence in the national government here, the local currency (South African rand) remains at the lowest level it’s been… ever.

And that’s made nearly EVERYTHING here dirt cheap if you’re spending foreign currency… especially US dollars.

Peak Insanity: This “Trophy Apartment” In Manhattan Is Going For A Cool $250 Million:

In April we pointed out that due to an already abundant supply of condos on the market, luxury real estate developer Extell Development Co couldn’t sell luxury condo’s at its One57 tower, in the heart of New York’s premier ultra luxury destination.

Extell decided that instead of leasing luxury apartments, it would sell the units as higher end apartments in order to fill vacancies and generate cash. As a reminder, Bill Ackman paid $91.5 million for a condo in One57 in April of 2015 just “for fun” in hopes of flipping the unit at some point.

UK to boost border security to prevent migrants crossing English Channel:

Britain is investing in extra patrol boats and surveillance to try to prevent migrants crossing the English Channel, a spokesman for Prime Minister David Cameron said on Tuesday.

Twenty people, including 18 Albanians, were rescued from the Channel over the weekend after their inflatable boat started taking on water.

Last year, extra fencing, cameras and police were deployed at the French terminal of the channel tunnel after passenger and freight services were severely delayed by migrants trying to stow away to Britain.

Things Are Thriving In The “Modern Hooker Economy”:

Last year we exposed the growing trend among thousands of British students who were funding their college experience through “Sugar Daddy” websites, where “arrangements” were made to allow students to pay off student loans and other living expenses.

It turns out that US students are now following this crafty debt repayment plan in the new “modern hooker economy.

Meet Candice Kashani, recent graduate of Villanova University School of Law who despite a scholarship faced tuition and expenses of nearly $50,000. Candice was able to graduate this spring debt-freewith the help of several sugar daddies of course.

Only In France…”The Right To Disconnect”:

Vowing to intensify their action to overturn an unpopular labor law, striking French union workers have already left hundreds of thousands of tourists stranded, gas stations empty, and nuclear power plants stretched. However, as low-skilled American workers fall foul of minimum wage blowback, the French parliament – despite Prime Minister Valls insistence that “France must show that it’s capable of reforming” – just passed new legislation making it illegal for your employer to send you an email outside of work hours.

Brits “Appalled, Disgusted” At Brexit Postal Ballot ‘Fraud’

Brits “Appalled, Disgusted” At Brexit Postal Ballot ‘Fraud’:

“I am appalled by it. It should be neutral,” exclaimed one angry Brit after seeing that Brexit voters are being sent postal ballots with a guide that strongly suggests they should vote for Britain to remain in the European Union.

The “How to vote by post” forms were sent out last week…

And, as The Telegraph reports, this has prompted furious complaints from anti-EU campaigners, as the step-by-step guide includes advice to “read the instructions carefully, then complete your ballot paper” above an image showing a pencil in a hand ticking a box to “remain a member of the European Union.”

“When i first saw these instructions I was disgusted… The Electoral Commission should never have allowed this to be sent.”

Dr. Paul Craig Roberts: There Has Been A Coup In Brazil

Dr. Paul Craig Roberts was Assistant Secretary of the Treasury during President Reagan’s first term. He was Associate Editor of the Wall Street Journal. He has held numerous academic appointments, including the William E. Simon Chair, Center for Strategic and International Studies, Georgetown University, and Senior Research Fellow, Hoover Institution, Stanford University.

There Has Been A Coup In Brazil — Paul Craig Roberts:

In Brazil the country’s largest newspaper has published a transcript of a secret recording leaked to the newspaper. The words recorded are the plot by the rich Brazilian elite, involving both the US-corrupted Brazilian military and Supreme Court, to remove the democratically elected president of Brazil under false charges in order to stop the investigations of the corrupt elites who inhabit Brazil’s senate and bring to an end Brazil’s membership in BRICS. The Russian-Chinese attempt to organize an economic bloc independent of Washington has now lost 20% of its membership.

Democracy has been overthrown in Brazil as in Ukraine, Honduras—indeed, everywhere the dirty evil hand of Washington falls, including the US itself.

Mongolia: The Dzud Kills More Than One Million Animals

The slow and deadly dzud in Mongolia:

So far this year, more than one million animals have been killed by the dzud. The word conjures up an image of a mythical monster, but it is a peculiar weather phenomenon and the fear of herders on the Mongolian steppes, as journalist Helen Wright reports.

The piles of dead, frozen sheep and goats lie stacked against the rocks, just out of sight.

They are victims of the dzud, an unseen and brutal natural disaster unique to Mongolia where a summer drought combines with a harsh winter and vast numbers of livestock die from either starvation or cold.

The last dzud in 2010 killed eight million animals. It is thought to descend in five-yearly cycles and each time it wreaks havoc.

“We are trying so hard to keep them alive,” 50-year-old herder Bayankhand Myagmar says, talking about her dead sheep and goats. “But nothing we do is working.”

In Mongolia it hasn’t rained since last July and this winter temperatures dropped to as low as -50C for days on end. Snowfall covered up to 60% of the country and fell heavier than usual.

Here’s What the Government Doesn’t Want You to Remember on Memorial Day:

(MINTPRESS)Austin, TX — Every Memorial Day, American leaders make passionate speeches about their love and admiration for the sacrifices made by the country’s brave military veterans.

“There’s no phrase U.S. politicians love more than ‘support the troops,’” journalist Abby Martin declared on a recent episode of her show, “The Empire Files.”

Yet, as Martin noted, “A dark hidden history shows that [politicians are] no friend to service members, but rather their greatest enemy. An easy way to prove this is to look at how quickly they abandon their soldiers after ruining their lives, even after using them as literal lab rats.”

Go forth & multiply: Turkey President Erdogan warns Muslims against using birth control:

Devout Muslim families ought to thrive without considering population planning and birth control, says Turkey’s president. Recep Tayyip Erdogan is known for previously equating birth control to treason and harshly opposing gender equality.

“We will multiply our descendants. They talk about population planning, birth control. No Muslim family can have such an approach,” Reuters cited Erdogan as saying in a live-broadcast speech in Istanbul on Monday. “Nobody can interfere in God’s work. The first duty here belongs to mothers.”
