– Millions Protest over Brazilian Regulation to Allow Genetic Extinction Technology:
The largest rural movements in Brazil, representing well over a million farmers, are protesting a new Brazilian regulation that would allow release of gene drives, the controversial genetic extinction technology, into Brazil’s ecosystems and farms.
On February 3rd and 4th, the National Coalition of Farmworkers and Rural, Water and Forest Peoples met near São Paulo, Brazil and sounded the alarm about new Brazilian regulatory changes – a resolution passed on January 15th by Brazil’s National Technical Commission on Biosafety that would allow the release of gene drive organisms into the environment. The effect of this change is that Brazil becomes the first country in the world to establish a legal channel for the release of gene drives into the environment. The new rule could potentially make it even easier to release a living gene drive organism than a GMO seed.
The farmers organizations are concerned about agribusiness giants spreading more transgenic seeds, but also attempts to directly change the nature of wild plants and animals.

While the Global Engagement Center was initially conceived of as resisting foreign propaganda efforts, the new funding is set to be invested in going “on the offensive” in global propaganda war with America’s own disinformation campaigns.
The US, of course, is no stranger to engaging in overseas propaganda efforts, but the inexorable nature of global information sharing in the modern era means that such US propaganda always risks misinforming the US public.

– US-Led Coalition Warplanes Strike Syrian Regime Forces:
The last time the US-led coalition fighting ISIS in Syria conducted air and artillery strikes against pro-regime forces in Syria, in the oil-rich Deir Ezzor region, was on Feb. 7, when hundreds of pro-regime fighters were killed, the largest number of “pro-regime” casualties inflicted by the US-led coalition in one attack. The coalition described its action as carried out in “self defense”, while the Syrian state news agency SANA described the action as an “aggression” by the coalition against “popular forces” who were fighting ISIS and the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces.
In a bombshell update one week later, it was revealed that among the casualties were hundreds of Russian mercenaries working on behalf of the Assad regime, and hired by the Wagner PMC (Private Military Group) – a shadowy organization often referred to as Russia’s answer to Blackwater. Adding to the mystery, is that the Wagner Group is believed to be funded by Yevgeny Prigozhin, a rich businessman close to President Vladimir Putin and also known as “Putin’s Chef.” Prigozhin was recently sanctioned by the US due to his links to the eastern Ukraine separatists.
Unnamed US intelligence sources quoted by the Washington Post said Prigozhin was in close contact with the Kremlin in the run-up to the Feb 7 assault on the Syrian Democratic Forces base in Deir Ezzor region.

Two Los Angeles police officers will spend the next 25 years behind bars after pleading no contest to sexual assault charges where the pair attacked women who were either acting as informants or were recently arrested on drug charges.
The pair was charged with sexually assaulting multiple women – with one officer committing the attack in their unmarked squad car as the other served as a lookout.
Officers James Nichols, 46, and Luis Valenzeula, 45, both entered no contest pleas on charges of forcible rape and forcible oral copulation.

– EU ‘wants Brexit Britain to accept ECJ rulings indefinitely’:
The EU will demand that Brexit Britain be subject to rulings from the European Court of Justice indefinitely, according to the Financial Times.
The text of the “governance mechanism” is due to be presented tomorrow, however, according to officials who have seen it, any Brexit agreement will require Britain to accept the ECJ as the ‘ultimate arbiter’ of disputes.
Failure to comply with rulings could see the UK face sanctions such as having it’s access to the Single Market cut off.
So, basically, the EU wants the ECJ not only to dictate the law to a sovereign nation in Brexit Britain, it has also threatened to hold the UK to ransom if it dares disagree with the court’s rulings…

The Henry Jackson Society on 25 February published a report called Wolves in Sheep’s Clothing: How Islamist Extremists Exploit the UK Charitable Sector. In the press release on its website, the Society states that the British taxpayer has supported charities that are being, or have been, used by extremists to further a radical agenda. As becomes clear from the report, the examples and case study it presents are illustrative, not comprehensive. The figure of misappropriated funds, that the report calculates to stand at over £6 million, is likely to be only the tip of the iceberg. From the press release:
“The money is enough to fund 27,328 hospital beds per day, the annual salary of 234 infantry soldiers, or the salary of 264 new teachers – but instead, it is being handed over to individuals some of whose involvement in extremism can be traced back to the Islamist scene in the early 2000s.“
The full 200-page report (PDF) points out that a UK government review published in 2017 found that organisations were purposefully vague about their activities, but portrayed themselves as charities to increase their credibility. It also helps them exploit the Islamic duty to give to charity. As the report states:

Central banks must clamp down on Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies to stop them “piggybacking” on mainstream institutions and becoming a “threat to financial stability,” Agustín Carstens the head of the Bank for International Settlements stated, FT reported.
Carstens, condemned Bitcoin as “a combination of a bubble, a Ponzi scheme and an environmental disaster.”
