According to local Arab News reports, the current snowstorm in the Middle East is just the beginning of a series of unprecedented polar storms.

Both European and Russian meteorologists agree that the coming snowstorm will be one of the worst blizzards in Middle Eastern history. Several sources confirm that a second wave of snowstorms will hit Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine by the end of the week.

Sources in the Joint Commission of weather forecasts say an icy polar wave will reach the region late Wednesday and may extend to parts of the Arabian Peninsula. It will be the first time in more than 80 years that such a phenomenon has occurred.

The same sources say this icy wave will spread across all the Levant, including coastal areas of Latakia in Syria to Gaza City to the south but will exclude the Jordan Valley area, which lies more than 300 meters below sea level. It is worth mentioning that coastal areas have not experienced snowfall since the 1950s.

Preliminary forecasts say snowfall may exceed two meters (almost 7 ft) at elevations above 800 m, while the snow piling up in areas near the the sea will create  big challenges for these countries as a result of lack of readiness for this kind of disaster..

“It is still a forecast, but I’m having this gut feeling they sure could be right about it,” says Argiris.
