On Saturday, a day after a tape was leaked of Trump’s now infamous “lewd” comments, Nebraska Senator Debra Fischer (R) called for Trump to step down as the nominee of the Republican party and allow Mike Pence to takeover instead. Per the Omaha World-Herald:
U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer of Nebraska steadfastly stood by Donald Trump all summer, defending him against critics and arguing he was far better than Democrat Hillary Clinton.
On Saturday, Fischer had enough.
Fischer joined U.S. Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska and about two dozen other GOP members of Congress over the weekend to denounce her party’s presidential nominee and call for Trump to step aside after the release of a lewd, trash-talking Trump tape.
Fischer agreed with Sasse that Trump could help his party by getting off its presidential ticket. “The comments made by Mr. Trump were disgusting and totally unacceptable under any circumstance. It would be wise for him to step aside and allow Mike Pence to serve as our party’s nominee,” Fischer said.
But, just three days later, Fischer went on Nebraska’s KLIN News Talk radio program and said she respects Trump’s decision to not quit the race and supports the Republican ticket.
“He decided he would not step aside. I respect his decision. I support the Republican ticket and it’s a Trump-Pence ticket.”
And here is the audio of the discussion (forward to the 2:00 minute mark for Deb’s reversal on Trump):
We suspect Deb is just the first of many who will ultimately un-unendorse Trump…we’re looking at you Paul Ryan…as Billy Bush would say, “How about a hug for The Donald.”
