– Trump promises he will be a dictator:
Washington, DC (TFC) – That may seem to be an inflammatory headline, but it is exactly what Presidential hopeful Donald Trump promised a room full of police officers. What’s worse is that he was greeted with cheers. While collecting the endorsement of the New England Police Benevolent Association, he said:
“One of the first things I do, in terms of executive order if I win, will be to sign a strong, strong statement that will go out to the country — out to the world — that anybody killing a policeman, policewoman, a police officer — anybody killing a police officer, the death penalty. It’s going to happen, OK?”
This is a promise to be the first American dictator. He has promised to act as executive, legislature, and judiciary. Fulfilling this promise requires he create a new federal law, a mechanism by which it trumps state law, and a mechanism by which the President can impose a sentence in a criminal case. He promises to do this by the stroke of a pen. His desire to dictate every facet of government requires he disregard the rule of law, usurp the roles of the other branches of government, and completely shred the Constitution of the United States. It makes him, quite literally, a dictator.
The separation of powers in our government is clearly outlined in the US Constitution. It strictly prohibits the executive branch from creating law at will, it does not allow the executive branch to impose sentences in criminal cases, and it reserves jurisdiction over most criminal cases to the states. 19 states do not allow capital punishment. Donald Trump has promised to completely disregard the founding document of the United States. He has asserted his right to act as President, Representative, Senator, judge, and executioner.
The fact that his proclamation was greeted by cheers by those who are supposed to enforce the law demonstrates clearly that the American people cannot rely on the disobedience of those so-called “oath keepers” in law enforcement. They will cheer as he seizes illegal and unconstitutional power. They will follow his orders. Once they are protected class, you won’t even be able to resist. Bush, Clinton, and Obama all exceeded their authority while using executive orders, but none was so bold as to proclaim they could create criminal law and declare the punishment with the stroke of a pen.
You cannot support Trump and say you believe in the Constitution. You cannot support Trump and say you stand for liberty. You cannot support Trump and say you want to make American great again. Trump has promised to destroy the very fabric of the American system and replace it with a dictatorship. You can ignore this warning if you choose, but you do it at the peril of your own liberty.
