Early snowstorms hit U.S. Midwest and New England:

A white OCTOBER?

In Marquette, Michigan, where thermometers dropped to 27°F, about 2.5 inches of snow fell overnight, the city’s highest daily total this early in the season since October 17, 1976, the National Weather Service reported.

In addition to Michigan, a dusting of snow was expected in Maine, New Hampshire, western New York and northwest Pennsylvania.

Even though winter doesn’t officially start until December 22, freeze watches and warnings and frost advisories have been issued from Missouri to Massachusetts, according to the Weather Channel.

Weekend temperatures were expected to hit freezing or below in several states, including Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.
