Manitoba freeze damages 50 to 60 percent of canola fields (Ice Age Now, June 3, 2015):

Many area farmers filing insurance claims and reseeding.

Seeding in the southwest region was close to complete Saturday when temperatures across the province dropped below zero in several areas. Brandon recorded a temperature of -4 C, while most of southwest Manitoba experienced temperatures between -1 and -3 C.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development estimates that 50 to 60 per cent of canola fields experienced frost damage.

  1. Why haven’t they modified the genes to withstand extreme frost?

    Hell, they can modify it to withstand poison.
