Baltic Dry Index: 666

Baltic Dry Index: 666 (ZeroHedge, Jan 28, 2015):

Forget The Hindenburg Omen and The Hilsenrath Omen, today we have the real deal as The Baltic Dry Index hits the ominous 666 level – the lowest print for this time of year on record. Of course, just like with oil – this is brushed off as over-supply (not under-demand) and we are sure someone will opine how positive this drastic deflation of shipping rates is for global business… but still – this is the lowest print since September 2012 (and practically the lowest since the recession).

At 666, The Baltic Dry is practically at post-recession lows…

  1. Isn’t this about the cost of moving dry goods across seas? So, due to lower oil and gas prices, the costs ought to go down. It won’t last, but they may as well enjoy it while they can.

Now, if this were more than the oil supply costs……..a global deflation……..I still say we need to monitor the commodities levels. The EU, Japan, and much of the world is in deflation………..the US is probably going to follow. The US is no longer a leader in such matters, it follows. Regardless of what the US might think, they are but a nation among nations, nothing more.

If the US does what it is being told, stop the shale stuff, it ruins what is left of our water supply, then all ought to settle down, unless it is too late. Once it is too late, deflation becomes an all encompassing monster.

    Time will tell.

  2. The DOW dropped a couple more hundred today…………..but it is meaningless. This stock market is totally rigged, and the numbers mean nothing. We can trust nothing they say.
90% of all transactions are high frequency skim and sell.
How long can a market claim to be going up when it is losing every day it is in business”

  3. Friend Stanley, do you mean the number 666 or that the Dow lost a couple hundred more points after losing more than that yesterday?
666 has many meanings in Numerology, many areas of the Ancients put meaning into numbers, it is a subject I could discuss with you for hours, and still have more to say. Fundamental Christianity is another area that puts much meaning into 666 because of Revelations in the Bible……..numbers have many meanings, depending on how you choose to look at it. Numbers have been used for centuries to forecast the future…….the life of the planet……………..it can go on and on.
Do I find any specific meanings in these numbers today? No, because I don’t believe anything they say, it is always worse than they admit. If they say it is down 666, it is more likely down 999.

  4. Friend, Stanley and my special one at IU. For some reason, the words of Marriner Eckles come to mind, he was the FED chairman under FDR. In 1952, he was asked what caused the crash of the 1920s……..it really started in 1919-1921, fixed with a real estate and stock market bubble through most of the 1920s………sound familiar?
Anyway, his reply was so good, I took it to memory.
“As in a poker game where the chips were concentrated in fewer and fewer hands, the other fellows could only stay in the game by borrowing. When their credit ran out, the game stopped.”

Another quote that comes to mind was made by a dear friend of mine recently. “What we are experiencing is the De-evolution of man.” Looking at the markets, Fukushima, New Mexico and Washington State, I fear she is correct.

    Best,
    Marilyn

  5. I’m reminded of something my old man (Dad) used to say….

Keep smiling. People will think you are either mad, or you know something they don’t.
