‘Mysterious Phenomena’ off U.S. West Coast: Fish disappeared, whales nearly absent, no krill, high rates of egg failure among birds — California Fishermen: “There’s almost nothing there, just a lot of warm clear water”

‘Mysterious Phenomena’ off U.S. West Coast: Fish disappeared, whales nearly absent, no krill, high rates of egg failure among birds — California Fishermen: “There’s almost nothing there, just a lot of warm clear water” (ENENews, Nov 4, 2014):

San Jose Mercury News, Nov. 2, 2014: Rare changes in wind patterns this fall have caused the Pacific Ocean off California and the West Coast to warm to historic levels, drawing in a bizarre menagerie of warm-water species. The mysterious phenomena are surprising fishermen… El Niño isn’t driving this year’s warm-water spike… Nor is climate change… All year [NOAA] scientists… have been forecasting an El Niño… But now the water is only slightly warmer than normal at the equator, leading scientists to declare a mild El Niño is on the way… The ocean changes also have affected birds. As ocean upwelling stalled in the summer, less krill and other food rose from the depths. As a result, several species of birds, including common murres, had high rates of egg failure on the Farallon Islands, 27 miles west of San Francisco.

Jaime Jahncke, California Current Group director of Point Blue in Petaluma, Nov. 2, 2014: “The krill that is usually present disappeared, and the fish that some of these birds rely on disappeared… Up until July we had an abundance of whales around the Farallons, mostly humpback whales, and some blue whales. And when we went back in September, there was no krill and the whales were nearly absent.”

Zeke Grader, executive director of the Pacific Federation of Fishermen’s Associations in San Francisco, Nov. 2, 2014: “Our guys in Santa Barbara are saying there’s almost nothing down there. Just a lot of warm, clear water, a little bit of salmon and not much else.”

Joe Welsh, associate curator of collecting for the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Nov. 2, 2014: “It is an oddball year… There’s a lot to learn out there.”

  1. Does anyone beside the person who set up this site, me, and a few others recognize the portend of this story. The Japanese nuclear disaster ought to have been buried in cement immediately after the storm in March of 2011…….the Russians offered their help, the damn Japanese said no.

Now, we confront, death for millions by starvation, or vicious radioactive food. The fact the republicans and democrats were so careful to screen all the food in their gatherings tells me the powers that be know we have a problem. If not, they would not be so careful of what they eat, or feed their cattle…….the cattle being the ones lined up as possible sock puppets. I used to be in politics, I watched how they reviewed the candidates as we do the horses before races at any first rate racetrack. They walked them around the paddock the same way, and quickly eliminated any that had minds of their own.

What can I say? We are going to die. I am going to die in any case, but the little ones, like my grandnephews and nieces…….they will never live to raise a family. The smooth, easy civilization we were all given has been destroyed. People go mad with hunger, even more mad once they realize safe food is kept out of reach only for those who can afford it. From a cheap food policy to this…….the society will explode around the world, no police, no matter how many, can stop it.

Society will fall apart on all levels, nobody will be safe. Here in CA, it is already affecting us. Well into November, and no rain. That means food, no matter how poisoned will not be raised because there is no water to sustain any crops. Any food from CA, OR, WA, AK, Mexico…….will be highly toxic.

It is already affecting prices. A friend of mine knowing how I used to love eating albacore tuna told me of some from the Atlantic ocean……$6.00 a can. From a normal price of one third of that amount, it is but a beginning. How safe is the food from the Atlantic? What kind of sensors can one buy to cover all the poisons from Japan? Also, the ones from WA state and NM?

What can I say? We need pills to suicide, and we need them quickly. Who has the guts to create them? If I had a chemistry degree, I would find a way, but historians make dreadful chemists.

Even if people can find safe food, they cannot find safe air, and that is the essential problem. Already my lungs burn from the pollution. Why are no doctors studying this? Why is nobody addressing it? This is insanity. They talk about elections as if nothing was amiss.
