US Troops Are Heading To Ukraine (ZeroHedge, Sep 2, 2014):

While only ‘humanitarian adviser’ boots on the ground are present in Iraq (and Syria), Reuters reports that preparations are under way near Ukraine’s western border for a joint military exercise this month with more than 1,000 troops from the United States and its allies. As Obama told reporters last week, “that a military solution to this problem is not going to be forthcoming,” it seems a little odd ‘strategically’ to go ahead with the Rapid Trident exercise Sept. 16-26 as a sign of the commitment of NATO states to support non-NATO member Ukraine, entailing the first significant deployment of U.S. and other personnel to Ukraine since the crisis erupted.

As Reuters reports,

As fighting between the army and Russian-backed rebels rages in eastern Ukraine, preparations are under way near its western border for a joint military exercise this month with more than 1,000 troops from the United States and its allies.

The decision to go ahead with the Rapid Trident exercise Sept. 16-26 is seen as a sign of the commitm ent of NATO states to support non-NATO member Ukraine while stopping well short of military intervention in the conflict.

“At the moment, we are still planning for (the exercise) to go ahead,” U.S. Navy Captain Gregory Hicks, spokesman for the U.S. Army’s European Command said on Tuesday.

But Rapid Trident will entail the first significant deployment of U.S. and other personnel to Ukraine since the crisis erupted.

“It is very important to understand that a military solution to this problem is not going to be forthcoming,” Obama told reporters at the White House last week.

The United States European Command (EUCOM) says the exercise this month will involve about 200 U.S. personnel as well as 1,100 others from Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Britain, Canada, Georgia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Norway, Poland, Romania and Spain.

Focused on peacekeeping, it will include command post drills, patrolling and dealing with improvised explosive devices.

  1. 1,100 others from Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Britain, Canada, Georgia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Norway, Poland, Romania and Spain.
13 other countries, providing less than 100 each……that is a hell of an ally base. This sounds like Bush’s Coalition of the Willing……20 from one, 50 from another, and so forth.
Obama needs to stay out. His bought out allies need to do the same……..
    What trash.
Putin will show them to be what they are, cowards. They won’t come out of this looking good.

  3. Of all the nations the so called powers that be threatened to take down…….Russia was not in their number…….going after Putin is a huge blunder……..the US can not win against a united Russia with a popular leader……not to mention a nation with strong GDP to debt level. The US has a debt level of 99% to GDP, Russia, 34% to GDP.
Russia is making money, the US simply prints more that better than half the world won’t accept.

  5. Don’t get wound up. That does nobody any good.
Accept the lies for what they are, ignore them.
We are responsible for trying to impart the truth. You will be ridiculed, but eventually, as circumstances prove, like MH17, people start to listen.
There is an awakening. Be part of it, and enjoy the experience.

  6. To Squodgy, hope you are right, that fool people are waking up…….people are very stupid, however, so pardon my cynicism if I don’t fully agree. Most of the fools want to believe the lies, and that makes it hard for the rest of us.

Peter, I understand your revulsion at Obama’s lies. He is the worst we have seen yet, and I thought Bush was the worst……..

I hope Squodgy is right, that people are awakening.

  7. I have found that rather than make initial comments trying to explain the truth, which is invariably met with rolled eyes and ‘nutter’ pigeon holing, just by waiting for the other party in a conversation to raise a subject and respond with “It’s just more lies to fool us” followed by “Check out the facts, don’t be fool enough to believe the MSM” is met with a better response.

I am surprised how nearly everyone I have met, have their head up their own arses and never use the internet for the wonderful mine of knowledge that it is.

Even retirees seem uninterested that the world is falling apart and still only know what the BBC and Daily Mail tell them, when a cursory check will throw out another side to every story.

But increasingly I am being asked for my take on issues, because people are not quite happy with the lies. We must keep chipping away. One convert is exponential.

  8. Marilyn, the progressive dumbing down of educational standards, mass marketing of unnecessary/trendy/fashion items as needs, and the false prioritising of fantasy news will take the bulk of the population of ‘useless eaters’ out of the equation anyway.

    They are a lost cause.

But what I’m finding are complete strangers at my door with deliveries etc, who are not asleep. They are waking up, and are of all ages.

It really is refreshing and needs nurturing, not killing off with boring story telling, which I’ve been guilty of. Brevity and links are the key so they can find out for themselves if they really want.
