Blast of wintry weather to hit Britain … In August – Forecasters warn of ‘coldest August spell in a century’

Blast of wintry weather to hit Britain…In August (Ice Age Now, Aug 20, 2014):

Forecasters warn of ‘coldest August spell in a century’

Parts of Britain are getting an unexpected dose of winter weather as gale force winds send temperatures plunging.

The Met Office has issued severe weather warnings for northern England and Scotland, with Ireland also likely to be affected by gusts which “would not be unusual in the autumn and winter”.

Met office spokesman Calum Maccoll said there could even be frost in parts of Scotland as temperatures approach zero later in the week.

Maybe even snow!

There is even a chance of snow and sleet over the mountains of Scotland as it dips to near freezing overnight.

Government figures show the last time it was this cold in August was in 1919 when the mercury rose no higher than 8.9C for four days in Yorkshire and Cumbria.

Forecasters said there is ‘not much to be optimistic about’ as temperatures look set to remain below average with spells of rain throughout the rest of August.

  1. They got it right for once. We had a hail shower yesterday, then clear, then loads of chemtrails and now dull, grey skies with rain.
