Russia’s LUKOIL stops oil supplies to Odessa refinery (ITAR-TASS, Feb 26, 2014):

The refinery has also been notified about the coming termination of power supplies from February 27 because of the unpaid debts

MOSCOW, February 26. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s oil company LUKOIL has stopped oil supplies to the Odessa refinery in Ukraine.

“The last tanker was sent on December 29,” a company official said on Wednesday, February 26.

Ukrainian media reports said earlier in the day that police had sealed oil tanks at the Kherson refinery. Oilnews quoted eye witnesses as saying that police had blocked all exits from the Odessa refinery in the morning of February 25.

On February 24, the refinery’s Director Valery Chakheyev tendered resignation; executive Director Sergei Kuznetsov and other top managers also walked out of the enterprise’s offices.

Media reports also said that the refinery would soon stop operation as it gets no more oil from the Sintez Oil transshipment centre that has stopped supplies to the enterprise because of its debts.

The refinery has also been notified about the coming termination of power supplies from February 27 because of the unpaid debts.

Telephones at the Odessa refinery do not answer. Sintez Oil officials told ITAR-TASS they “have no information.

  1. Putin is playing hardball. They need fuel to live, literally.
No doubt some agreement will be reached when the Ukraine rejoins Russia…….and they will. Between a choice of the US/EU or Russia, they will choose Russia.

  3. Agreed, they are inextricably linked both culturally, historically & economically. They are also very badly managed, and as much in debt as UK, which only proves EU desires were purely on behalf of the PTB to get at Vlad.
Finally, it never pays to burn one’s bridges like that. If a customer doesn’t pay it’s bills, then kicks the supplier in the teeth as well, it is only right the supplier walks away AND takes his ball home.
There’s no way the bankrupt EU can help bail out Ukraine. Their offer was derisory. Putin’s was fair, up front & on the table but the brain dead, emotion driven academics couldn’t plan a piss-up in a brewery, didn’t think it through and left both flanks wide open.
Like taking candy from a baby for Vlad.
