Three people killed by extreme cold in Pakistan (Ice Age Now, Jan 3, 2014):

Most powerful cold spell in decades.

The temperature in the central regions of Pakistan has dropped to below zero for the first time, falling three degrees Celsius in Islamabad.

In northern areas of Pakistan, and the tribal areas bordering Afghanistan and areas of Quetta and the province of Balochistan, the temperature ranges between 5 to 17 degrees below zero.

ISLAMABAD: Due to the cold wave that grip the whole country, all the educational institutions of our federal capital Islamabad will remain closed till January 11. In Islamabad all educational institute will remain closed till January 11 said by Tahir Rafiq, who is a spokesman for the Ministry for Federal Affairs. On January 01 when all schools opened after winter vacation then after two days the announcement made for further vacation due to cold wave that grip whole country.
