South Carolina House Approves Bill Criminalizing Enforcement Of ‘Obamacare’

SC House Approves Bill Criminalizing Enforcement Of ‘Obamacare’ (CBS/AP, May 3, 2013):

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina House approved a bill Wednesday criminalizing the implementation of President Obama’s health care law in the state.

The Republican-controlled House voted 65-39 on the Freedom of Health Care Protection Act.

The act renders “null and void certain unconstitutional laws enacted by the Congress of the United States taking control over the health insurance industry and mandating that individuals purchase health insurance under threat of penalty.”

“This kind of victory occurs when the grassroots across the State come together and coalesce,” Chris Lawton, spokesman for the Greenville Tea Party, told The Greenville Post. “I could not be prouder.”

The bill declares “Obamacare” unconstitutional – despite the Supreme Court ruling last year that the Affordable Health Care Act was constitutional — and that there will be criminal penalties for enforcing the law.

Gov. Nikki Haley earlier this year said that the state will not implement the nation’s health care law.

“Connecticut expanded early under ‘Obamacare’ and just reported a $190 million Medicaid deficit – in spite of subjecting their citizens to a massive tax increase,” Haley said during the State of the State address. “California just raised taxes in part to cover their Medicaid deficit and yet needs $350 million more to pay for ‘Obamacare’ next year. That’s not us. That’s not South Carolina.”

  1. This is futile, and all it will do is make it harder for the poor to get any medical care. Look at all the states that have legalized pot, the Obama administration is jailing the largest number of pot smokers and medical pot distributors in our history.
State law isn’t going to overcome federal law, regardless of what the people want. The federal government serves the corporations (insurance companies, banksters and big business), not the people. Citizens United ruling by the supreme court makes it legal and official, even multinational corporations can run US elections secretly according to Citizens United, with no oversight or transparency provided. Unless we get rid of it, our voices are shut down for good. Forget the rest of it.

Unless all fifty states get Citizens United repealed, none of this will matter. 38 states have it on their ballots for 2014, the other 12 states need to do the same. Otherwise, the nightmare will only get worse.

Obamacare has provided private insurance companies a captive market of all US citizens, and will provide them free collection services through the IRS. People who don’t want to buy it will be fined and dogged by the IRS, regardless if they can afford it or not. It is a huge mess, and ever since Obama took single payer off the table, it is clearly not going to help the people at all.

None of these actions will matter unless we get rid of Citizens United. People need to wake up and pay attention.
