AND NOW: Obama Grants Pay Increase For Members Of Congress, Federal Workers In Executive Order

Obama Grants Pay Increase For Members Of Congress, Federal Workers In Executive Order (ZeroHedge, Dec 29, 2012):

When it comes to US austerity, a very sensitive topic as framed best by the “spending cuts” portion in the Fiscal Cliff debate, the ideas range from the surreal to the outright idiotic: as an example in the most recent Obama proposal spending would be “reduced” in the form of $290 billion in interest savings – not an actual spending reduction, but a hope and a prayer that because rates are lower, the government will “save” money with rates continuing to be lower (something which immediately causes a #Ref! explosion for anyone not using government math), $130 billion in savings that would come from once again rejiggering the definition of ‘inflation’, as well as “savings” from not funding extra defense spending because the US is not engaged in a pro forma war. Like we said: surreal and idiotic, or in other words, no actual real cuts to spending. Yet even as the nation is gripped by the melodrama of fake spending cuts offset by the threat to tax millionaires more (all of whom will merely find more creative and effective ways to hide their wealth and income offshore), spending increases are all too real, such as last night’s order by Obama’s just issued an executive order to end the pay freeze for federal employees, which is the equivalent of a wage increase. A truly deserved rise in wages for a job well done by the most dysfunctional Congress America has ever seen.

Among the workers to receive a pay increase is Vice President Job Biden. As the Weekly Standard reports, citing disclosure forms, Biden made $225,521 last year and after the pay increase, he’ll now make $231,900 per year. More: “Members of Congress, from the House and Senate, also will receive a little bump, as their annual salary will go from $174,000 to 174,900. Leadership in Congress, including the speaker of the House, will likewise get an increase.” Somehow we have the feeling that Congress will be quite united behind this “order”, just as the Senate was very united yesterday in its decision to continue spying on America’s citizens.

Council On Foreign Relations Plan For Global Governance in 2013

Council of Councils Members

Council on Foreign Relations Plan for Global Governance in 2013 (Activist Post, Dec 29, 2012):

It is incredible that mention of a one-world government in many circles is still considered to be conspiracy talk. Fortunately, the global political awakening that arch-globalist Zbigniew Brzezinski has referred to is forcing ever-increasing justifications for their use of globalist language.

One would hope that a relatively new Council on Foreign Relations initiative that is expanding can lay to rest any debate about the desire to form a global government in the name of supposedly solving global problems.

The initiative called The Council of Councils was featured in a recent round table discussion of the central problems facing the world that they believe require multilateral cooperation. The discussions and recommendations released from this convention of experts is important to keep available the next time you hear the label conspiracy theorist hurled in your direction. The title of the round table was Challenges for Global Governance in 2013.

Gun Control Tramples On The Certain Virtues Of A Heavily Armed Citizenry

Gun Control Tramples On The Certain Virtues Of A Heavily Armed Citizenry (Forbes, Dec 28, 2012):

It is time the critics of the Second Amendment put up and repeal it, or shut up about violating it.  Their efforts to disarm and short-arm Americans violate the U.S. Constitution in Merriam Webster’s first sense of the term—to “disregard” it.

Hard cases make bad law, which is why they are reserved for the Constitution, not left to the caprice of legislatures, the sophistry and casuistry of judges or the despotic rule making of the chief executive and his bureaucracy.  And make no mistake, guns pose one of the hardest cases a free people confronts in the 21st century, a test of whether that people cherishes liberty above tyranny, values individual sovereignty above dependency on the state, and whether they dare any longer to live free.

A people cannot simultaneously live free and be bound to any human master or man-made institution, especially to politicians, judges, bureaucrats and faceless government agencies.  The Second Amendment along with the other nine amendments of the Bill of Rights was designed to prevent individuals’ enslavement to government, not just to guarantee people the right to hunt squirrels or sport shoot at targets, nor was it included in the Bill of Rights just to guarantee individuals the right to defend themselves against robbers, rapers and lunatics, or to make sure the states could raise a militia quick, on the cheap to defend against a foreign invader or domestic unrest. The Second Amendment was designed to ensure that individuals retained the right and means to defend themselves against any illegitimate attempt to do them harm, be it an attempt by a private outlaw or government agents violating their trust under the color of law.  The Second Amendment was meant to guarantee individuals the right to protect themselves against government as much as against private bad guys and gangs.

Banks at risk of ‘perpetual’ cycle of bankruptcy, warns Alix (Telegraph, Dec 29, 2012):

Large banks risk getting caught in “perpetual” cycle of bankruptcy like aerospace companies and carmakers unless they radically alter the way they do business, according to a leading industry consultant.

Alix Partners, one of the most influential advisers to senior banking executives, warns that global investment banks must tackle head-on issues such as bonuses and their addiction to the “steroids” of debt-fuelled growth.

“Just look at the auto manufacturing and commercial aviation industries, where over the past two decades, changes in regulatory and operating environments combined to render formerly solid businesses into perpetual wards of the bankruptcy court,” said the consultants.

According to Alix, investment banks still pay their staff far too much, pointing out that the “overpayment effect” last year was $18bn (£11bn), or close to 30pc of the world’s top 15 banks’ combined pre-tax profits.

I removed the all the content of this article from…

Because of that and because of their immediate overreaction to write a DCMA, which is by the way abused in 57% of all cases …

… I have decided to remove not only the content of the article, but also the link.

My hoster’s legal department even told them to …

“… submit a properly formatted notice pursuant to the DMCA.”

… next time.

Their DCMA was baseless and unprovable according to a senior webmaster I know.

Those people do not deserve a backlink from Infinite Unknown.

In regards to their article Greenpeace Finds Cesium In Japanese Grocery Store Fish” I’ve told them:

This article contains TWO TINY (f******) sentences and quoting them is ‘fair use’ in my opinion.

A “fair dealing” with copyright material does not infringe copyright if it is for the following purposes: research or private study; criticism or review; or reporting current events.

The Fukushima disaster is killing and threatening all life on the entire planet.

I am thinking that an intelligent being will do everything it can to help avoid total disaster (like a Fukushima reactor no. 4 SFP collapse) even if it is just by raising global awareness and hoping that through that the response to the Fukushima disaster will improve because of increasing public pressure & awareness.

You state at SimplyInfo that …

“Crowd sourced information research & analysis without focus on profit.”

Without focus on profit??? If this statement is the truth, then where is the problem???

Why should you care about copyright? Because by saying that your work is not about the money one might think that you want this information to be known to as many people as possible.

Ron Paul On The Fiscal Cliff: ‘We Have Passed The Point Of No Return’ (CNBC Video)

Ron Paul On The Fiscal Cliff: “We Have Passed The Point Of No Return” (ZeroHedge, Dec 29, 2012):

In a little under three minutes, Ron Paul explains to a somewhat nonplussed CNBC anchor just how ridiculous the charade that is occurring in D.C. actually is. This succinct spin-free clip should be required viewing for each and every asset-manager, talking-head, propagandist, and mom-and-pop who are viewing the last-minute idiocy of the ‘fiscal cliff’ debacle with some hope that things will be different this time. “We have passed the point of no return where we can actually get our house back in order,” Paul begins, adding that “they pretend they are fighting up there, but they really aren’t. They are arguing over power, spin, who looks good, who looks bad; all trying to preserve the system where they can spend what they want, take care of their friends and print money when they need it.” With social safety nets available to rich and poor, there is no impetus for change and “the country loses,” but Paul concludes, the markets are starting to say “there is a limit to this.”

French Constitutional Court Strikes Down 75% Millionaire Tax, Finds It ‘Unfair’

French Constitutional Court Strikes Down 75% Millionaire Tax, Finds It “Unfair” (ZeroHedge, Dec 29, 2012):

In a crushing blow to socialism, wealth redistribution and purveyors of the “fairness doctrine” (as defined here first) everywhere, the French Constitutional Council ruled on Saturday that Hollande’s brilliant idea to tax millionaires at a 75% tax rate – a move which has since seen numerous millionaires leave France and move to Belgium – is unconstitutional. Per Reuters, the Council ruled that the planned 75 percent tax on annual income above 1 million euros ($1.32 million) – a flagship measure of Hollande’s election campaign – was unfair in the way it would be applied to different households. Which is ironic because just like in the US, so in France, the selective wealth redistribution campaign waged by the government against the “rich” (which have yet to be properly defined: those making over $250K? Over $400K? Over €1MM?) was based on the premise that it is only “fair” that the rich contribute more. Turns out fairness in the eye of the government beholder, was unfair. But the move begs the question: would the court have struck down the law had it been a merely 50% tax hike? And if the income cut off was, say, €500,000? The far bigger question is, and has been in this year of encroaching socialism, just what is the definition of “rich”, what is the definition of “fair redistribution”, and where do the two coincide. Finally, how soon until the US Supreme Court weighs in as well on any final Fiscal Cliff tax hike proposal which, like in France, will see the “rich” pay an abnormal share, and will that too be ruled unconstitutional?

From Reuters:

While the tax plan was largely symbolic and would only have affected a few thousand people, it has infuriated high earners in France, prompting some such as actor Gerard Depardieu to flee abroad. The message it sent also shocked entrepreneurs and foreign investors, who accuse Hollande of being anti-business.

Warrantless Wiretaps? Congress Votes YES

Warrantless wiretaps? Congress votes yes (Ars Technica, Dec 28, 2012):

Secret surveillance courts will live on in 2013, and beyond.

US Senators from both parties overwhelmingly approved a bill this morning that will authorize warrantless wiretaps, throughout 2013 and for four years beyond that.

Supporters of the bill, including Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) and Diane Feinstein (D-CA), insisted it should be passed without amendment, in order to avoid having it sent back to the House of Representatives for approval. The current authorization for Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) courts would have expired on Jan. 1.

Why Claiming US Has ‘Best Health System’ Is A Sick Joke

Why claiming US has ‘best health system’ is a sick joke (PressTV, Dec 28, 2012):

Is the American health care system “the best in the world”? If so, perhaps Oregon is spinning its wheels trying to fix a health care system some U.S. congressmen say isn’t broken. Let’s hear what these national leaders say and then check reality.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell says, “We do start with the notion, however, that we have the best health care in the world.” If McConnell had diabetes, he might pause. American diabetics suffer twice as many foot amputations as diabetics in Europe because they cannot afford care to prevent foot infections from turning deadly.

Iran Launches ‘MASSIVE’ 6 Day Naval Wargame (Video Coverage)

Iran Launches “Massive” 6 Day Naval Wargame – Video Coverage (ZeroHedge, Dec 28, 2012):

As we reported previously, today Iran decided to launch a rather impromptu “massive” naval drill dubbed the Velayat 91, which will take place in the Oman Sea, North of Indian Ocean, in the Persian Gulf and East of Strait of Hormuz, and will cover an area of one million square kilometers right in the sweet zone of the US 5th Naval Fleet’s AOR, where in addition to other resources, both the Stennis aircraft carrier and Peleliu amphibious warfare ship group are located. As PressTV reports, “On the first day of the drills, ships and submarines, will go to their locations and get ready for the tactical stage of the maneuvers. Forces in shores will also get ready for the tactical phase of the drills. In addition our 23rd fleet will be deployed to the high seas to protect commercial ships and oil tankers and to counter piracy in Gulf of Aden.” All this will be taking place within kilometers of both the busiest seaborne transit corridor of crude oil in the world, as well as the headquarters of the US 5th Navy in Bahrain. What could go wrong.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s Gun Control Bill Will Trigger The Next American Revolution

FYI.

Feinstein’s Gun Control Bill Will Trigger The Next American Revolution (Alt-Market, Dec 28, 2012):

ll political power comes from the barrel of a gun. The communist party must command all the guns, that way, no guns can ever be used to command the party – Mao Tse Tung

After a shooting spree, they always want to take the guns away from the people who didn’t do it. I sure as hell wouldn’t want to live in a society where the only people allowed guns are the police and the military – William Burroughs

Revolution?  Yes, it all sounds rather “extreme”, but the cold hard reality of our era is not going to comfort us with diplomacies and niceties, so honestly, why should I have to sugar coat anything?  We live in extreme times and there is no longer room for prancing around the ultimate consequences of that which is taking place in America today.  This country is increasingly sliding towards the edge of internal conflict.  The Liberty Movement and true Constitutionalists see it, subsections of Republicans and Democrats see it, and most of all, the federal government sees it.  In fact, they may even be counting on it.

Over the past two years alone, multiple draconian policies have been enacted through executive order by the Obama Administration which build upon the civil liberty crushing actions of George W. Bush and press far beyond.  The Patriot Acts, the FISA domestic spy bill, the bailouts of corrupt international banks, attempts at CISPA and SOPA, actions like the NDAA authorizing the treatment of U.S. citizens as “enemy combatants” without rights to due process; all paint a picture so clear only a one-celled amoeba (or your average suburban yuppie) would not see it.  You and I, and everyone else for that matter, have been designated potential targets of the state.  Our rights have been made forfeit.

HUMOR: Top Ten Reasons Why Fiat Currency Is Superior To Gold (Or Silver) Money

Top Ten Reasons Why Fiat Currency Is Superior To Gold (Or Silver) Money (The Daily Capitalist, Dec 27, 2012):

By John Butler, on December 27th, 2012

In the spirit of the holidays and hope for a more prosperous 2013, I thought my readers might appreciate a little humour to partially offset the relentless doom and gloom associated with the Amphora Report. So please, don’t take this edition too seriously. But if you happen to stumble across a ‘paperbug’ or two over the holidays, perhaps you could share some of the points made here. Humour sometimes helps people realise just how hopelessly misguided they are. Cheers!

Number 10: There Is Not Enough Gold (Or Silver) In The World To Serve As Money

Let’s begin with the obvious. We know that central banks the world over have printed money at exponentially growing rates for years. There is now so much paper and electronic money floating around the world that gold (or silver) can not possibly be expected to keep up. You can’t print gold, after all, you need to find it, dig it out of the ground, refine it, etc, a hugely expensive and time-consuming process which practically ensures a stable rather than exponentially growing supply of the stuff.

America’s 75 Economic Numbers From 2012 That Are Almost Too Crazy To Believe

16 Things About 2013 That Are Really Going To Stink (Economic Collapse, Dec 28, 2012):

The beginning of the year has traditionally been a time of optimism when we all look forward to the exciting things that are going to happen over the next 12 months.  Unfortunately, there are a whole bunch of things about 2013 that we already know are going to stink.  Taxes are going to go up, good paying jobs will continue to leave the country, small businesses will continue to be destroyed, the number of Americans living in poverty will continue to soar, our infrastructure will continue to decay, global food supplies will likely continue to dwindle and the U.S. national debt will continue to explode.  Our politicians continue to pursue the same policies that got us into this mess, and yet they continue to expect things to magically turn around.  But that is not the way that things work in the real world.  Bad decisions lead to bad outcomes.  Instead of realizing that what we are doing is not working, our “leaders” continue to give us more of the same.  As a result, there are going to be a lot of things about 2013 that will not be great.  Sticking our heads in the sand and pretending that everything will be “okay” somehow is not going to help anyone.  We’ve got to make people understand exactly what is happening and why it is happening if we ever hope to see real changes.

The following are 16 things about 2013 that are really going to stink…

Japan: Presenting Shinzo Abe’s ‘Super-Secret’ Devaluation Plan – Double-Down

Presenting Abe’s ‘Super-Secret’ Devaluation Plan – Double-Down (ZeroHedge, Dec 28, 2012):

Much has been made of newly appointed uber-easer Abe’s plans to weaken the JPY by any means possible. Since the global financial crisis began in early 2008, USDJPY has tracked remarkably closely with the ratio of Federal Reserve assets to Bank of Japan assets – as the currency wars escalated. Assuming the Fed proceeds with its planned QE3/4 $1tn expansion, then BoJ assets would need to expand by around JPY100tn to meet this target. The current BoJ holdings of JGBs just crossed JPY100tn – so this new printing is double the current holdings and considerably more than double the planned JPY44tn purchases for the year. Good luck with that given the expected JGB issuance this year is only around JPY44tn and good luck persuading anyone that the BoJ is not directly funding the government in the ultimate reacharound. As the Fed monetizes 1 year of Treasury issuance so the BoJ has to monetize over 2 years of JGB issuance – sustainable?
