Fukushima Medical University Prof. Expects Radiation Diseases To Hit In 4-5 Years

Fukushima medical uni “It’s important to collect medical data before outbreak to come in 4~5 years” (Fukushima Diary, Sep 8, 2012):

Fukushima local government is keeping people within the prefecture as if Fukushima accident put no impact.
However, Fukushima medical university is actually aware of the health risk related to Fukushima accident, but thinks it’s important to collect medical data before outbreak.

Japan Radiation Res. Soc. held the meeting in Tohoku university from 9/6 to 9/8/2012. Prof. Ohtsu from Fukushima medical university commented on the meeting like this below,

「原発事故に関連した疾患が発症するまでには4、5年はかかるとみられる。その前に健康に関するデータを集めることが重要だ」

Outbreak of Fukushima related symptoms will take 4~5 years to occur. It’s important to collect data about health condition before outbreak.
<End>

He also commented

「低線量被ばくは安全だとの考えを押し付けてはいけないし、いたずらに危険をあおってもいけない。心身両面で県民への多角的な支援が求められている」

We shouldn’t force the opinion to people that low dose exposure is safe, but also we shouldn’t inspire fear excessively. Mental, and physical supports are required from variety of fields.
<End>
Mr. Chino from Japan Atomic Energy Agency was one of the developing members of SPEEDI. He also criticized that NISA and Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology didn’t publish SPEEDI to evacuate people. They explain it was because they couldn’t obtain the accurate data of reactors. He left the comment about their explanation like this below,

「自然災害では不確実な予測でも対策に生かすのに、原子力災害で完璧な情報を求めるのは理解できない」

<Translate>
They conduct measures for natural disaster based on even imperfect prediction, but it’s not understandable why they only looked for the perfect prediction to ignore SPEEDI data when it comes to nuclear disaster.
<End>
