My father was Captain Craig Lenell. He was the Continental airlines pilot on flight 61 who passed away flying over the Atlantic from Brussels to Newark. According to the autopsy, my father died of from an infection that attacked his heart. My father was required to undergo two physicals each year. Ironically he had his physical 3 weeks prior to passing, "supposedly" his health was good and his EKG showed no issues. Before we worry about pilots sleep, we need to worry if pilots are getting proper physicals from doctors that are not part of the "good old boys club" as referred to by other pilots. It's well know amongst pilots which doctors to see if you don't want to risk the possibility of FAA suspending your health licence. Turns out, my father had heart issues prior that easily could have been repaired. I know my father loved me, but his love of flying I suppose came first. I hope the airlines get strict with who pilots see for physicals, because it won't be long before another pilots daughter or son is posting my same opinion.
