Romney clinches Republican 2012 nomination in Texas (Reuters, May 30, 2012):

Mitt Romney clinched the Republican presidential nomination on Tuesday with a resounding victory in Texas and now faces a five-month sprint to convince voters to trust him over Democratic President Barack Obama in the November 6 election.

Although the race has been essentially over for weeks, Romney finally cleared the benchmark of 1,144 delegates needed to become the Republicans’ presidential candidate after a long, bitter primary battle with a host of conservative rivals.

He will be formally nominated at the Republicans’ convention in Florida in late August.

In a statement, Romney said he was humbled to win enough of Texas’ 155 delegates to secure the nomination.

Mitt Romney’s victory in the Texas primary on Tuesday gives him enough delegates to capture the Republican presidential nomination, but he remains some distance from recovering from the damage caused by months of tussling with rivals in his own party.

  1. Yes, both politicians serve the same corporate system, they are merely puppets. Citizens United ruling by the corrupt supreme court has silenced the voices of the people for good. What is pathetic is the amount of Americans who still believe their vote matters.
We have no voice in choosing our leaders, neither candidate represents the people, 40% GOP voters don’t like Romney, and they are getting them anyway. Ron Paul, greatly favored by many GOP voters was sidelined, just as Dennis Kucinich was in 2008. He may have some delegates, but the powers have their decree set, Romney.
Add in the power of money in the election system, now unlimited for rich corporations that will buy up all the air time to sell their candidates and issues.I had one fool tell me corporations couldn’t vote, so we still have power. What a joke!
Add in the rigged voting machines and the outcome has already been decided. The election is a charade, nothing more. Augustus used to hold elections in the early days after taking over as emperor at the end of the Roman Republic. He would choose the men he wanted serving around him, then put up a number of straw men as competing candidates to give the illusion to the Romans they were still voting. The straw men were unknown, unqualified….and never won.
Romney or Obama. Twiddle dum, or twiddle dee, take your pick.
