Snow leaves drivers stranded in their cars overnight (Mirror, Feb. 5, 2012):

Drivers have been stuck in their cars overnight after snow hit the UK.

The bad weather saw traffic grind to a standstill on some roads, with some drivers abandoning their cars.

Overnight the M25 was shut in both directions between junctions 23 and 25, causing gridlock.

There were also problems on the M40, with 100 vehicles stranded.

Much of the country has had heavy snowfall, with Church Fenton in North Yorkshire reporting 16cm (6ins) of snow.

Temperatures have also fallen to below the average for the time of year, with the mercury dropping to minus 12.4C in South Newington, Oxfordshire on Friday night
