Americans for Legal Immigration PAC is releasing a statement today rebutting Senator Dick Durbin’s (D-IL) attacks on the group’s statements that helped defeat the Dream Act Amnesty cloture vote this past Saturday December 18, 2010, which marks the legislation’s seventh defeat in Washington.

Senator Durbin scrambled to save the bill from ALIPAC’s accusation that the waiver provision found on page 5, line 21, would allow the Obama administration to bypass most of the requirements in the bill and give amnesty to most illegal aliens in America including terrorists and criminals.

In a desperate effort to save the bill from ALIPAC’s revelations about the waiver, Senator Durbin claimed on the Senate floor that, “During the course of preparing for this, one Senator received a notice that said that the DREAM Act allows the Secretary of Homeland Security to waive all grounds of inadmissibility for illegal aliens including criminals, terrorists, and certain gang members. We had my staff call the Senator’s office who put this out and ask: Where did you get that? That is not what it says. They couldn’t point to any source.”

He continues, “We then called the Department of Homeland Security and said: “All right, give us an answer. Under the DREAM Act, could you waive all these things, would terrorists and criminals have a right? Of course not. The Department of Homeland Security came back and said: No, that isn’t what the law says at all. So we are battling not only passing a bill but a lot of misinformation. That is troublesome.”

The source of this bill stopping information is no mystery. The source is the text of the legislation itself and the national press release put out by Americans for Legal Immigration PAC at 9:00 am on the same day of Durbin’s comments titled ‘Dream Amnesty Allows Obama To Grant Amnesty To All Illegals’

Senator Durbin is likely aware of the source of his concerns about the waiver provision because some of his staff members subscribe to ALIPAC’s email alerts and updates!

All US Senate offices were flooded with copies of this press release including calls from thousands of activists.

“Senator Durbin’s attempt to use Homeland Security, which under Napolitano is one of the most aggressive promoters of Amnesty for illegal immigrants, is absurd,” said William Gheen President of ALIPAC. “All we did is draw lawmakers attention to page 5 line 21 of HR 5281 where it clearly states that Homeland Security can waive all of the other requirements in the bill and apply this legislation as mass amnesty for most of the illegal aliens in America!”

ALIPAC, which has played a key role in defeating the Dream Act Amnesty seven times following this recent vote, stands by the decision to release the waiver information as a method to stop HR 5281. If more elected officials actually read the bills they were voting on, such efforts would not be needed.

Close inspection of HR 5281, which was defeated in the Senate by a narrow margin, finds a blanket waiver provision on page 5 line 21 Sec. 6 (a)(2). Immediately following all of the promises in the bill that only illegal aliens who claim they are under 30, claim they have been in the US 5 years, and claim they were brought here by others when they were under 16, and claim they are going to college or into the military, the waiver allows all of these considerations to be dropped.

Dream Act Amnesty Defeated Again Today!

We have won another round against Reid, Pelosi, and Obama’s Dream Act Amnesty!

The Cloture Vote on HR 5281, which passed the House by a narrow margin, has failed with 55 votes for Cloture and 41 against leaving the bill supporters 5 votes short of what they needed.

We want thank each and every one of you that has supported ALIPAC, or NumbersUSA, or the many other great organization leading the charge against this nationally destructive Amnesty.

(NaturalNews) The infamous S.510 “food food safety bill” was passed by the US Senate last night in a sneaky, last minute voice vote. All Senators voted for it, Republicans and Democrats alike. Not a single U.S. Senator — not even Coburn — objected to its passage.

With this vote, the US Senate now sends the bill back to the House of Representatives where it is due for a final vote as HR 2751 that would then send the bill to the White House for a presidential signature. This House vote could take place as early as tomorrow (Tuesday).

A betrayal of food freedom

This last-minute sneak vote of unanimous consent is widely considered a betrayal of food freedom by the few Republicans who had opposed this bill. The betrayal

It’s important to understand the depth of betrayal that has just been committed by the GOP members of the US Senate. Democratic members of the Senate, of course, have always voted for S.510 because it’s a bill that expands the power of government and will unleash an army of FDA inspectors who roam the countryside harassing farmers and small growers. The expansion of government power over the People has almost always been unanimously supported by Democratic Senators.

But Republicans have been reluctant to see such a sudden expansion of FDA power and personnel. Some GOP members have opposed this bill because they see it as too overreaching, too powerful and too threatening to the food freedoms upon which this country was founded. So they tried to oppose the bill in order to keep the FDA out of our farms, gardens and greenhouses. And for a long time, Sen. Tom Coburn effectively blocked this bill from becoming law.

But Senator Harry Reid — the King of Corruption in the Senate, in my opinion — kept pushing this bill, backed by Big Agribiz corporate supporters who can’t wait to see small farms buried under the burden of compliance that would be unleashed under the bill. And no, all small farms are NOT exempt from this bill. In the world of agriculture, a small family farm growing food on as little as twenty acres can easily exceed $1 million a year in revenues (without much profit, because there isn’t much profit in most crops) and thereby be subjected to FDA tyranny under S.510.

S.510 is the Patriot Act of farming. And the reason it got so much support from the large corporations is because it will effectively destroy many small, local organic farms by suffocating them under a new regulatory burden — even when they’re not the problem to begin with! Food safety is only a problem because of the factory animal operations that comingle with large, corporate food operations, thereby contaminating fresh produce with animal-grown bacteria. E.coli, for example, cannot multiply in plants! It can only grow in the intestines of animals.

THONGS and board shorts gave way to beanies and scarves yesterday as summer gave way to a wintry blast of snow and icy temperatures in the country’s southeast.

While the bitter freeze in Europe continues, Victoria and NSW have had a cold snap of their own, with off-season ski slopes transformed into winter wonderlands.

About 30cm of snow fell at Perisher in NSW yesterday, while Victoria’s Mount Hotham received a 10cm dusting on Sunday.

Charlotte’s Pass in the NSW Snowy Mountains also received a 10cm sprinkling of snow, prompting would-be bushwalkers to don clothing more suitable for skiing.

It was surprising to see the Kosciuszko Chalet Hotel blanketed with snow at this time of year, resort manager Michelle Lovius told The Australian yesterday.

“I’m sitting inside in my scarf and beanie,” she said.

“When you walk in it, it’s up past your ankles and it’s just started snowing heavily again. ”

In Sydney yesterday, there were blustery winds and unseasonably low temperatures of just 13C. The western suburb of Horsley Park recorded 9.8C and the Blue Mountains dropped to -2C.

Government Supports ISP Porn Filter

The government has urged UK Internet service providers to block pornographic websites in order to help protect children.

UK communications minister Ed Vaizey is expected to meet representatives from UK ISPs BT, TalkTalk and Virgin Media to discuss the possibility of blocking pornographic websites at homes with children by default.

Under the plans, access to such websites will be blocked unless a person of appropriate age opts-in to regain access to pornographic content on the web.

Vaizey said in a statement: “This is a very serious matter. I think it is very important that it’s the ISPs (Internet service providers) that come up with solutions to protect children. I’m hoping they will get their acts together so we don’t have to legislate, but we are keeping an eye on the situation and we will have a new communications bill in the next couple of years.”

However, the Open Rights group has voiced its concerns over a blacklist being controlled by the government as they fear that it would turn into a front for blocking websites like WikiLeaks.

ISPs Hit Back At British Proposal To Ban Porn


The British government is planning to ask internet service providers (ISP’s) in the U.K. to restrict access to pornographic web sites and protect children from gaining access–but it’ll probably have a hard time getting them to toe the line.

The Internet Service Provider Association said today that controls on children’s access to the Internet “should be managed by parents and carers with the tools ISP’s provide, rather than being imposed top-down.”

It comes after U.K. communications minister Ed Vaizey said he would meet with Internet providers like BT, Virgin Media and Talk Talk “in the near future” to discuss the way households access pornography online.

“I’m hoping they will get their acts together so that we don’t have to legislate,” he told The Sunday Times, “but we are keeping an eye on the situation and we will have a new communications bill in the next couple of years.”

Carcinogen Hexavalent Chromium (Chromium VI) Found in Drinking Water of 31 US Cities

In is scientifically proven that chromium VI causes cancer in animals.

An environmental group that analyzed the drinking water in 35 cities across the United States, including Bethesda and Washington, found that most contained hexavalent chromium, a probable carcinogen that was made famous by the film “Erin Brockovich.”

The study, which will be released Monday by the Environmental Working Group, is the first nationwide analysis of hexavalent chromium in drinking water to be made public.

It comes as the Environmental Protection Agency is considering whether to set a limit for hexavalent chromium in tap water. The agency is reviewing the chemical after the National Toxicology Program, part of the National Institutes of Health, deemed it a “probable carcinogen” in 2008.

The federal government restricts the amount of “total chromium” in drinking water and requires water utilities to test for it, but that includes both trivalent chromium, a mineral that humans need to metabolize glucose, and hexavalent chromium, the metal that has caused cancer in laboratory animals.

Last year, California took the first step in limiting the amount of hexavalent chromium in drinking water by proposing a “public health goal” for safe levels of 0.06 parts per billion. If California does set a limit, it would be the first in the nation.

Hexavalent chromium was a commonly used industrial chemical until the early 1990s. It is still used in some industries, such as in chrome plating and the manufacturing of plastics and dyes. The chemical can also leach into groundwater from natural ores.

The new study found hexavalent chromium in the tap water of 31 out of 35 cities sampled. Of those, 25 had levels that exceeded the goal proposed in California.

The highest levels were found in Norman, Okla., where the water contained more than 200 times the California goal. Locally, Bethesda and Washington each had levels of 0.19 parts per billion, more than three times the California goal.

Goldman Sachs bosses are to pick up $111million in bonuses in an ‘outrageous’ pay deal that flies in the face of the worst recession for 80 years.

The investment banks’ chief executive Lloyd Blankfein and president Gary Cohn will get $24million each under the bumper agreement that will see thousands of others get huge rewards.

The bonuses were agreed in 2008 months before Goldman took $10billion of U.S. bailout money, but due to technicalities there is no way to stop the bank from paying them out.

Goldman’s largesse comes as America’s economy struggles to recover from financial meltdown caused by risky bank lending.

Millions of Americans have been forced out of their jobs and federal workers have been told by President Barack Obama to take a pay freeze amid an unprecedented squeeze on public finances.

Even other Wall St banks such as Morgan Stanley have promised pay restraint amongst senior executives.

Blankfein, 56, and Cohn, 50, were given $27million and $26.6million respectively in 2007 but, like other managers, have either been given restricted stock options or no bonus since then.

No such arrangements have been made for 2010, paving the way for the colossal awards that are supposed to compensate them for their work for the last three years.

In addition to Blankfein, the company’s chief financial officer David Viniar will get $21.3million whilst former co-president Jon Winkelried, who left the firm in March 2009, will get $20.8million.

Edward C. Forst, co-head of investment management, who left in 2008 and returned a year later, will get $14.3million.

Goldman has already been bullish about is bonuses and has set out $13billion to cover compensation and benefits this year alone, the equivalent of paying each of its 35,400 employees $370,706 each.

But taxpayers struggling to make ends meet are likely to be infuriated that the good times are rolling once again whilst the rest of America is in the doldrums.

On top of that, Goldman was was among those which relied most heavily on the Federal Reserve’s fund to help stricken banks and at one point it was borrowing up to $35billion a day.

Southampton Airport was closed until 12pm and flights to certain destinations from Birmingham were also grounded.

Delays and cancellations were expected at Belfast International while a spokesman for Heathrow said the airport was open but would be “challenged” today.

“Heathrow is fully operational but we are expecting more snow and planning for the worst,” he said.

South Korean troops geared up today for artillery drills on a border island shelled by North Korea last month despite Pyongyang’s threat to retaliate again, as Russia and China expressed concerns over rising tensions on the divided peninsula.

The North warned yesterday that it would strike even harder than before if the South went ahead with its planned drills. Four people died last month in the North’s attack on Yeonpyeong Island near the tense sea border.

The US supports South Korea, saying the country has a right to conduct such a military exercise. However, Russia’s Foreign Ministry expressed its “extreme concern” yesterday over the drills and urged South Korea to cancel them to prevent a further escalation of tensions.

China, the North’s key ally, also said it is firmly opposed to any acts that could worsen already-high tensions on the Korean peninsula. “In regard to what could lead to worsening the situation or any escalation of acts of sabotage of regional peace and stability, China is firmly and unambiguously opposed,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said in a statement today.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said today that marines would go ahead with the drills as scheduled and that the military was ready to respond to any possible provocation.

“We have a right to conduct our own military drills,” a Joint Chiefs of Staff officer said.

Property ownership is important, not only for landowners, but because property ownership extends to all of your  possessions, your intellectual property and all the way to your very body.  If private property ownership is abolished, imagine the eventual impact on property rights.

For a few hours on the night of Dec. 20 to Dec. 21, the attention of tens of millions of people will be drawn skyward, where the mottled, coppery globe of our moon will hang completely immersed in the long, tapering cone of shadow cast out into space by our Earth. If the weather is clear, favorably placed skywatchers will have a view of one of nature’s most beautiful spectacles: a total eclipse of the moon.

Unlike a total eclipse of the sun, which is only visible to those in the path of totality, eclipses of the moon can usually be observed from one’s own backyard. The passage of the moon through the Earth’s shadow is equally visible from all places within the hemisphere where the moon is above the horizon.

The total phase of the upcoming event will be visible across all of North and South America, as well as the northern and western part of Europe, and a small part of northeast Asia, including Korea and much of Japan. Totality will also be visible in its entirety from the North Island of New Zealand and Hawaii — a potential viewing audience of about 1.5 billion people.  This will be the first opportunity from any place on earth to see the moon undergo a total eclipse in 34 months. Stages of the eclipse

There is nothing complicated about viewing this celestial spectacle.  Unlike an eclipse of the sun, which necessitates special viewing precautions in order to avoid eye damage, an eclipse of the moon is perfectly safe to watch. All you’ll need to watch are your eyes, but binoculars or a telescope will give a much nicer view.

Brazil: Politicians Vote to Give Themselves 62% Pay Rise (134% to The President And 149% To Ministers!)

Brazilian politicians have voted to give themselves a 62 per cent pay rise, increasing their salaries to more than 50 times the minimum wage.

A ‘lightning’ vote rushed through the country’s National Congress before it shuts for the year also awarded a 134 per cent pay rise to the president and a 149 per cent increase to ministers.

The changes mean Brazil’s 513 deputies, the equivalent of MPs in the country’s lower house, and 81 senators in the upper house will have parity with the country’s Supreme Court judges, earning R$26,723.13 (£10,063) a month.

But the decision was criticised by some deputies in light of recent Government promises to cut down on public spending in order to help control inflation.

Luiza Erundina, of the PSB party, said that her colleagues had shown “disrespect” to the public, adding: “The deputies are going to end up being attacked in the streets.”

Guido Mantega, Brazil’s finance minister, said last week that he will use a “heavy hand” to cut budgets as he pledged to halve the loans provided to the country’s state development bank BNDES from their 2010 level.

The increases mean the wage bill for Congress will increase by R$136m (£51m) a year.

President Obama to Sign Package Extending Tax Breaks For The Rich

The US president, Barack Obama, will today sign into law measures approved by Congress extending tax cuts introduced by George Bush amid Democratic complaints that the breaks favour the rich.

Despite objections from many of Obama’s fellow Democrats, the House of Representatives passed the $858bn (£548bn) package of renewed tax cuts last night. The package, which also extended benefits for the long-term unemployed for 13 months, was passed by 277 votes to 148. On Wednesday the Senate passed it by an overwhelming 83-15 margin.

Passage of the bill reflects the relative weakness of both the presidency and the Democratic party after the Republican sweep in November’s congressional elections, giving them a majority in the House and big inroads into the Democratic majority in the Senate.

Anglo-Irish Bank did not represent a systemic risk to the Irish economy, it wasn’t a high street bank like AIB or the Bank of Ireland. If it had been allowed to go the way of Lehmans the only losers would have been shareholders and bondholders. The Irish state stepped in and nationalised a bank that was basically run by crooks lending to property speculators.

Expert says whopping cough mutating, becoming more infectious

As California experiences its worst whooping cough outbreak in more than 60 years, health officials across the country trumpet vaccinations to protect against the disease.

The number of cases of the disease in San Diego County this year has reached a record 1,046 as of mid-December and may triple the region’s previous record by year’s end, according to the county Department of Health and Human Services.

Data collected from around this state and several others show that many people who have come down with whooping cough had been immunized.

Reporters from KPBS and the Watchdog Institute, a nonprofit investigative center based at San Diego State University, collected and analyzed reports from areas with high rates of infection, and they traveled from Los Angeles to the Netherlands to find out why so many people are getting sick.

Two of the world’s most respected experts on the whooping cough, which is also known as pertussis, have very different views. Dr. James Cherry, a prominent researcher at UCLA, says increased awareness of whooping cough has led to more reports of it. However, Dr. Fritz Mooi, a well-known Dutch scientist who has been studying mutations of the pertussis bacteria for 15 years, said a more virulent strain of bacteria is contributing to outbreaks.

Britain Braces For Weeks of Transport Chaos

Britain is gritting its teeth and its roads today in anticipation of the return of Arctic conditions, with heavy snow and ice storms likely to bring wide-scale disruption. With many parts of the country only just beginning to return to normal after weeks of sub-zero temperatures, the Met Office said up to 25cm of snow was expected to fall in parts of Scotland, North Wales, Northern Ireland and the West Country. Overnight temperatures were likely to plunge to -12C on high ground and to -5C in London over the weekend. Today, the mercury is unlikely to rise much above freezing point even in major cities.

Britain Could Be Shivering in Temperatures Colder Than Siberia, Snow Storms Could Put 1,000 Firms Out of Business

Experts have warned that Britain could be shivering in temperatures colder than Siberia over the next few days.

Customers relying on home deliveries face an anxious wait, with hauliers warning that thousands of items could still be stuck in warehouses on Christmas morning.

Temperatures are expected to drop to -15C (5F) in the coming days, leaving Britain colder than the North Pole, the Arctic and Alaska.

It is feared that shops which have already been severely hit by freezing conditions in January and November will not be able to cope with a third spell of bad weather. Yesterday Amazon became the latest retailer to bring forward its final order deadline for guaranteed Christmas delivery while the shopping channels QVC and Ideal World said they could not guarantee that orders placed now would arrive in time for Christmas.

Douglas McWilliams, the chief executive of the Centre for Economics and Business Research, said: “As many as 800 or 900 businesses could go bankrupt which otherwise wouldn’t have, because this is the straw that breaks the camel’s back.”

David Greaves, director of the insurance company RSA, added that, with the economy already suffering a £4.8billion loss and businesses fearing a further £8.4billion hit because of the weather, “many smaller businesses may not be in a position to cope”.

Synovate, a retail analyst that counts shoppers electronically at 5,500 British stores, said high streets have already lost a week’s worth of shoppers this winter because of snow and ice.

It said shopper numbers had been down by almost 50 per cent in some areas, with a nationwide 15 per cent fall from Nov 28 to Dec 4, a seven per cent fall from Dec 5 to Dec 11 and a fall of almost five per cent on Sunday compared with the same time last year. The British Retail Consortium said that shoppers would not be put off so easily during this cold snap because it is the last weekend before Christmas. Sarah Cordey, a BRC spokesman, said shops had largely “caught up” with their losses from November but stores were hoping for a bumper weekend to make up the loss they made at the beginning of the month.

Up to 12ins of snow are predicted to fall in parts of Britain, accompanied by strong winds. Temperatures are likely to struggle to get above freezing over the weekend, dropping at night to between -7C (19.4F) to -15C (5F).

Jonathan Powell, of Positive Weather Solutions, said it was possible that Britain’s record coldest recorded temperature, -27.2C (-16.96F) at Braemar, Scotland, on Feb 11, 1895, and Jan 10, 1982, could be broken.

FDA cracks down on illegal supplements

WASHINGTON – The Food and Drug Administration is cracking down on manufacturers of certain weight loss, body building and sexual enhancement supplements that contain potentially dangerous ingredients.

The FDA said Wednesday that some manufacturers are deceptively labeling products to hide that they contain ingredients known to cause adverse health effects. Other supplements contain ingredients that should only be available by prescription.

“These tainted products can cause serious adverse effects, including strokes, organ failure, and death,” said FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg. “The manufacturers selling these tainted products are operating outside the law.”

Dietary supplements can slip through the regulatory cracks because, unlike drugs, they do not have to be approved by the FDA before they are marketed. Manufacturers are responsible for making sure their products are safe.

The phenomenon was created by bone-chilling storms which have plagued the Midwest for days before sweeping through the Northeast and on into Canada. Hundreds of motorists have been stranded on a southern Ontario highway.

More snow fell yesterday in parts of Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York. The frigid temperatures stretched into the deep South, where hard freeze warnings were in effect overnight in much of Florida. Hundreds of schools were closed or opening late.

Canadian officials said about 150 of the estimated 300 people trapped in their vehicles on Highway 402 near Sarnia, Ontario, had been rescued, as many as a dozen by military helicopters.

Many people are staying with their vehicles. Sarnia is about 65 miles (105 kilometers) northeast of Detroit. Ontario Community Safety Minister Jim Bradley said he had no reports of deaths or injuries among the stranded.

During remarks that she made for the 15th Anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced the launch of a new program that according to Clinton will now become the centerpiece of U.S. foreign policy.  This new program is known as the Global Health Initiative, and it is being incredibly well-funded at a time when the U.S. government is drowning in debt.  According to Clinton, 63 billion dollars will be spent by the U.S. to prevent pregnancies and to improve “family planning” services around the globe over the next six years.  In other words, the new centerpiece of U.S. foreign policy is all about eugenics and population control.

The following is an excerpt from Clinton’s remarks….

In addition to new funding, we’ve launched a new program that will be the centerpiece of our foreign policy, the Global Health Initiative, which commits us to spending $63 billion over six years to improve global health by investing in efforts to reduce maternal and child mortality, prevent millions of unintended pregnancies, and avert millions of new HIV infections, among other goals. This initiative will employ a new approach to fighting disease and promoting health.

You see, whenever the global elite want to launch another new eugenics operation, they announce it as a great “humanitarian program” that will save millions of lives.  But their real goal is to control the population and prevent millions of lives from being born.

This was also reflected in Clinton’s remarks about the United Nations Population Fund.  The United Nations Population Fund has been promoting abortion, forced sterilization and radical population control measures around the globe for decades, and Hillary Clinton was super excited to talk about how the U.S. government recently renewed funding for that organization….

This year, the United States renewed funding of reproductive healthcare through the United Nations Population Fund, and more funding is on the way. (Applause.) The U.S. Congress recently appropriated more than $648 million in foreign assistance to family planning and reproductive health programs worldwide. That’s the largest allocation in more than a decade – since we last had a Democratic president, I might add. (Applause.)

While the application of scientific knowledge creates technology, sometimes the technology is later redefined by science. Such is the case with terahertz (THz) radiation, the energy waves that drive the technology of the TSA: back scatter airport scanners.

Emerging THz technological applications

THz waves are found between microwaves and infrared on the electromagnetic spectrum. This type of radiation was chosen for security devices because it can penetrate matter such as clothing, wood, paper and other porous material that’s non-conducting.

This type of radiation seems less threatening because it doesn’t penetrate deeply into the body and is believed to be harmless to both people and animals.

THz waves may have applications beyond security devices. Research has been done to determine the feasibility of using the radiation to detect tumors underneath the skin and for analyzing the chemical properties of various materials and compounds. The potential marketplace for THz driven technological applications may generate many billions of dollars in revenue.

Because of the potential profits, intense research on THz waves and applications has mushroomed over the last decade.

Health risks

The past several years the possible health risks from cumulative exposure to THz waves was mostly dismissed. Experts pointed to THz photons and explained that they are not strong enough to ionize atoms or molecules; nor are they able to break the chains of chemical bonds. They assert—and it is true—that while higher energy photons like ultraviolet rays and X-rays are harmful, the lower energy ones like terahertz waves are basically harmless. [Softpedia.com]

While that is true, there are other biophysics at work. Some studies have shown that THZ can cause great genetic harm, while other similar studies have shown no such evidence of deleterious affects.

Boian Alexandrov at the Center for Nonlinear Studies at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico recently published an abstract with colleagues, “DNA Breathing Dynamics in the Presence of a Terahertz Field” that reveals very disturbing—even shocking—evidence that the THz waves generated by TSA scanners is significantly damaging the DNA of the people being directed through the machines, and the TSA workers that are in close proximity to the scanners throughout their workday.

From the abstracts own synopsis:

“We consider the influence of a terahertz field on the breathing dynamics of double-stranded DNA. We model the spontaneous formation of spatially localized openings of a damped and driven DNA chain, and find that linear instabilities lead to dynamic dimerization, while true local strand separations require a threshold amplitude mechanism. Based on our results we argue that a specific terahertz radiation exposure may significantly affect the natural dynamics of DNA, and thereby influence intricate molecular processes involved in gene expression and DNA replication.”

In layman’s terms what Alexandrov and his team discovered is that the resonant effects of the THz waves bombarding humans unzips the double-stranded DNA molecule. This ripping apart of the twisted chain of DNA creates bubbles between the genes that can interfere with the processes of life itself: normal DNA replication and critical gene expression.

Other studies have not discovered this deadly effect on the DNA because the research only investigated ordinary resonant effects.

Dec. 17 (Bloomberg) — Ireland’s credit rating was cut five levels by Moody’s Investors Service and further downgrades are possible as the government struggles to contain losses in the country’s banking system.

The rating was lowered to Baa1 from Aa2, Moody’s said in an e-mailed statement from London today. That’s three levels above non-investment grade and the same level as countries including Russia and Lithuania. The outlook on the rating is “negative,” Moody’s said.

Irish lawmakers on Dec. 15 voted to accept an 85 billion- euro ($113 billion) aid package from European governments and the International Monetary Fund to stabilize the country’s finances. Moody’s said that confidence in Irish banks “evaporated” in the run-up to the bailout.

“While a downgrade had been anticipated, the severity of the downgrade is surprising,” Glas Securities, the Dublin-based fixed-income firm, said in an e-mailed note today.
